Kamiyama Spring Water Coffee Event: A Glimpse of Kyoto's Seasons

From June 12th to June 15th, 2025, a unique event titled 'Experience the Magic of Fireflies at the Kamiyama Spring Water Coffee Event' will be hosted at the Kamo Wakeikazuchi Shrine, also known as the Kamigamo Shrine. This event marks a decade of offering Kamiyama Spring Water Coffee and aims to connect the spirit of Kyoto’s rich natural heritage with coffee culture, all while promoting health and environmental sustainability.

The event is a collaborative effort between Ajinomoto AGF, led by President Norihito Shimamoto, and the Kamo Wakeikazuchi Shrine, which has preserved Kyoto's renowned Kamiyama Spring Water. The event will feature stunning views along with the rare opportunity to observe the delicate fireflies, a seasonal highlight that is unfortunately declining across Japan.

What to Expect:

Attendees can look forward to a myriad of activities amid the beautiful backdrop of the shrine's lush nature:

• - Special Nighttime Tours: Experience exclusive night tours of the shrine, including visits to designated national treasures like the main shrine and the secondary shrine.
• - Firefly Viewing: Join guided tours to observe fireflies near the serene “Nara no Ogawa” stream, participating in efforts to conserve these remarkable creatures.
• - Night Café Experience: Relish Kamiyama Spring Water Coffee in an atmospheric setting within the shrine's important cultural property, enjoying traditional Japanese sweets, including the original 'Ubatama' and 'Nishikidama' sets by Kameya Yoshinaga.

A Celebration of 10 Years

A milestone event for the Kamiyama Spring Water Coffee, the celebration highlights how this unique coffee has contributed to promoting the local culture since its dedication in 2015. Under the philosophy that “water nurtures life and sustains food,” Ajinomoto AGF has strived to strengthen cultural appreciation through coffee and has taken significant steps to incorporate sustainable practices.

Environmental Responsibility

In partnership with Earth Hacks, a company dedicated to developing decarbonization-related products and services, the event will also focus on environmental education. Local students have participated in restoring the environment surrounding Nara no Ogawa, enhancing the experience while preserving fireflies’ natural habitats.

Participation:

Only 80 lucky participants will be drawn from applicants between May 27 and June 3, allowing them to partake in this exceptional experience. A participation fee of 1,000 yen will apply, and attendees will receive a commemorative drip pack (enough for three cups) of Kamiyama Spring Water Coffee.

As a special incentive, participants who bring their own containers will benefit from discounts on coffee purchased during the event, further encouraging environmental responsibility.
