Kyoritsu Maintenance Engages Students in Coastal Conservation with Beach Cleanup

Kyoritsu Maintenance Engages Students in Coastal Conservation

Kyoritsu Maintenance, a leading student housing provider in Japan, is gearing up to host its annual Kanizaki Beach Cleanup on July 12, 2026, at Kanizaki Coast in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. This impactful event aims to rally students around the cause of environmental preservation, contributing positively to local coastal ecosystems.

The event will see the participation of 60 residents from Kyoritsu's student dormitories, led by the Resident Assistants (RAs), a group of student leaders responsible for guiding and organizing this essential initiative. The theme for this year's cleanup, “Pick Up Together, Protect Together, Enjoy Together,” reflects the spirit of collaboration and community engagement among the students.

The Kanizaki Beach Cleanup is part of a broader mission by Kyoritsu Maintenance to respond to the increasing desire among students to take proactive steps towards social issues, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As more young people express a willingness to engage in social initiatives, Kyoritsu believes it is vital to provide practical learning opportunities and avenues for contribution to society.

Having begun this initiative in line with Yokosuka City’s “Action Declaration for Marine Plastic Waste Countermeasures,” this year will mark the fourth iteration of this significant event. Notably, local government officials from Yokosuka City will be present to greet participants, further emphasizing the collaborative nature of this community engagement.

Key Highlights and Activities

On the day of the cleanup, staff from the nearby Lavista Yokosuka Kanizaki Terrace hotel will join students, creating a unique opportunity for cross-industry collaboration in environmental conservation efforts. The event promises to be an enriching experience, featuring:

  • - Team-Building Activities: Prior to the cleanup, students will participate in fun team-building games designed to break the ice and foster camaraderie. Activities such as “Human Stopwatch” and trivia quizzes about Yokosuka and the hotel will encourage connections among the participants.
  • - Complimentary Meals and Relaxation: Participants will enjoy a complimentary meal at a seaside restaurant, featuring Yokosuka Navy-style curry, before unwinding in the hotel’s natural hot spring bath and participating in other activities such as ice cream tasting, table tennis, and beach walks after the cleanup.
