Promoting Regional Living: Event for Dual Locale Residents Set in Tokyo
As Japan moves towards an innovative concept of living, the dual locale lifestyle is gaining attention. This lifestyle allows individuals to commute regularly between two different regions.
Another Works, a start-up based in the Minato Ward of Tokyo, will host an event on June 18, 2025, aimed at residents of the Tokyo metropolitan area interested in dual locale living and working in Hokkaido. This initiative aligns with Japan’s National Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s project focused on implementing leading strategies for dual locale living.
Collaborative Initiatives to Foster Dual Locale Living
Recently, the focus has been on enhancing the awareness and accessibility of this lifestyle with significant legislative support. The revised
Wide-Area Regional Vitalization Infrastructure Development Act, which comes into effect in November 2024, will streamline the process for municipalities to create shared workspaces for dual locale residents, funded by the national government. This support responds to the need for diverse talent in rural municipalities, bridging the expert knowledge gap through the
Dual Locale Cloud for Public platform.
A comprehensive report released in May 2025 by the Dual Locale Research Institute revealed that 69.3% of dual locale workers actively visited their local regions. This shift indicates how dual locale living significantly contributes to revitalizing rural areas and fostering new relationships within communities.
To implement these strategies, Another Works has teamed up with
Atsuma Town in Hokkaido and two other entities, forming the
Atsuma Town Dual Locale Leading Project Consortium. This collaboration is set to pilot significant approaches to address challenges arising from dual locale living.
