Lung Cancer Research Foundation Welcomes Benay Taub to Its Board of Directors
The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) has welcomed Benay Taub to its Board of Directors, marking a significant addition to an organization dedicated to improving outcomes for lung cancer patients. Taub’s personal journey with lung cancer, having been diagnosed at Stage IV in June 2024, uniquely positions her to advocate for advancements in research and care.
Benay’s exploration into the world of advocacy stemmed from her own diagnosis, a shocking revelation given her absence of known risk factors for lung cancer. This experience propelled her to raise awareness about the disease and advocate for increased funding and support for research initiatives. Benay is committed to fostering innovation in lung cancer treatments, holding onto the hope that her contributions will lead to transformative changes in the lives of patients.
Educationally, Benay boasts an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Brooklyn Law School. She is an experienced mediator in New York State, and her commitment to community service is notable, as she's participated in numerous charitable organizations and has served on various Boards. In addition to her legal and advocacy work, Benay also holds certificates from the International Culinary Center and the New York Bartending School, showcasing her diverse interests.
Recently, Benay was featured as a patient speaker at LCRF's Evening of Innovation gala, allowing her to share her story and insights with a broader audience. Further demonstrating her commitment to the cause, she and her husband, Steven, have established an LCRF Team Science Award titled "2025 LCRF Team Science Award on Advancing Therapies Toward Curing EGFR Mutated Lung Cancers," which is set to be awarded in early 2026.
In her own words, Benay expressed the deep significance of her new role, stating, "It’s meaningful for me to be joining LCRF as a board member. Lung cancer research, which has been historically underfunded, is the reason that people like me have hope for the future. I look forward to working with the other board members and staff, helping LCRF shape its future in funding impactful research that will continue to save lives."
Colleen Conner Zeigler, the chair of LCRF's board, praised Benay's energy and enthusiasm as vital components of the organization’s mission. She remarked that Taub's perspective as a recent patient will be valuable in advancing LCRF's strategic plan to double research investments.
Aubrey Rhodes, LCRF's executive director, emphasized the importance of having board members who can connect personal experiences with the scientific advancements in lung cancer research. He believes that Benay’s involvement will enhance LCRF’s efforts to improve outcomes and life expectancy for lung cancer patients.
With her vast experience and unwavering dedication, Benay Taub is poised to make significant contributions to LCRF’s mission. For those interested in exploring more about LCRF, including its volunteer leadership, the research it funds, and its grants program, please visit
