Riviana Foods Teams Up with California Food Banks for 'Jars of Hope' Initiative
In a bold move to tackle hunger in California,
Riviana Foods Inc., the leading rice manufacturer in the United States, has launched its second annual "
Jars of Hope" initiative. This project, in partnership with the
California Association of Food Banks (CAFB), aims to support families facing food insecurity across the Golden State. From November 3 to November 30, 2025, for every two jars of
RiceSelect® purchased in participating stores, one jar will be donated to CAFB.
Participating grocery chains include household names such as
Albertsons,
Raley's,
SaveMart, along with returning partners like
Food4Less,
Foods Co.,
Ralphs, and
Walmart. Megan Byerly, the RiceSelect Brand Manager, expressed pride in contributing to local communities through the initiative, highlighting the importance of collaboration with engaged partners like CAFB.
California faces an urgent hunger crisis, with an estimated
5.4 million individuals—including
1.4 million children—experiencing food insecurity. The concern is exceptionally heightened for children, with more than
one in four households facing such challenges across the state. Yulanda Smith, Vice President of External Affairs at CAFB, noted that rice products are typically scarce in food donations, particularly during critical times like the holiday season. She emphasized the significance of this initiative, thanking Riviana for their ongoing commitment to combat hunger.
The inaugural "Jars of Hope" project saw unprecedented success, raising a total of
$125,000 through various contributions. Byerly invites all residents of California to participate by purchasing RiceSelect products and ultimately aiding families in need. With the potential donation of thousands of jars, the initiative is set to create a significant impact this year.
