National Press Club Extends Submission Deadline for 2026 Journalism Awards

On May 4, 2026, the National Press Club announced a significant extension to its submission deadline for the much-anticipated 2026 Journalism Awards, moving it to Monday, May 11, 2026. This new deadline offers journalists an invaluable opportunity to submit their finest works across 15 distinguished award categories.

The Journalism Awards celebrate excellence in reporting, encapsulating a variety of formats including politics, breaking news, investigative journalism, multimedia projects, and international reporting. By allowing more time for submissions, the club aims to encourage a wider array of entries, inviting journalists from both individual backgrounds and established news organizations to participate.

New Features for 2026

This year, each award category will come with a monetary incentive—a $1,000 cash prize for the top submissions. This initiative highlights the Club's steadfast commitment to supporting exceptional journalism and recognizing the hard work of media professionals.

Additionally, the scope of select award categories has been expanded to adapt to the evolving landscape of journalism. Notably, the Michael A. Dornheim Award for Aerospace, Defense, and Aviation Reporting now encompasses a broader range of topics, recognizing not just journalism focused on aerospace or national defense but also incorporating developments in the airline industry and advancements in aerospace science and engineering.

Similarly, the Washington Correspondence Award has a new dimension. It will now honor reporting that showcases how decisions made in Washington have profound effects on communities nationwide, enhancing its relevance in today’s political context.

Submission Guidelines

Journalists are invited to submit entries either individually or through institutional representations. The National Press Club has provided a comprehensive list of categories and detailed submission guidelines, which can be found online at their official website.

This year’s winners will be revealed in June and will be formally celebrated during the 53rd Annual Journalism Awards Dinner on August 26, 2026, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event promises to be a hallmark of journalism excellence and a gathering of the industry's finest.
