The vibrant Iris and Hydrangea Festival will take place at the breathtaking Yakuin Park in Machida, Tokyo. This annual event celebrates the stunning blooms of irises (Hanashobu) and hydrangeas (Ajisai) and is set to amaze visitors from May 31 to June 30. The park boasts beautiful grounds filled with over 2,200 irises from 175 different varieties, providing a captivating backdrop for this floral festival.

Main Events


Yakuin Park Events

  • - Iris Display: This is where guests can marvel at the irises blooming in the Iris Field. Visitors will see a variety of 175 types of irises such as Edo, Higo, and Ise. Oils of the floral variety will be on display as local ‘Hanatsuki Musume’ —meaning flower-picking girls dressed in traditional attire—care for the flowers. This grooming occurs two to three times a week until the blooms are gone. The peak blooming period is anticipated from early to mid-June.

  • - Iris Guide Services: Engage with local tour guides who will share fascinating stories about irises as you explore the Iris Field. (For specific dates, refer to the Machida Convention Association's website.)

  • - Hydrangea Display: Wander through the park’s hydrangea displays located near the Iris Field and hydrangea gardens featuring 1,000 hydrangeas of 42 different varieties, such as Gakuajisai and Seiyou Ajisai. Expect the best display from mid to late June.

Ebiene-en Events

  • - At Ebiene-en, a partial opening will showcase 5,000 beautiful hydrangeas across 17 varieties, adding to the festival's charm.
