The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) has officially announced the members of its 2026-2027 board of directors, which showcases a dynamic lineup of experienced nursing leaders in the emergency healthcare sector. New Board Composition


As of January 1, 2026, the BCEN board welcomes two new members among its ranks while recognizing the invaluable contributions of those stepping down. The board comprises a diverse group of experts specializing in various fields of nursing, including adult and pediatric emergency care, trauma, flight, and burn nursing. This variety ensures that BCEN can effectively oversee its strategic initiatives, particularly regarding its acclaimed certification programs and educational resources.

The 2026-2027 Board Members:


1. Julie Ruddy, BS, RN, CEN, CPEN, TCRN - Chairperson
A seasoned professional with over 40 years of experience, Julie Ruudy hails from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She has had a stellar career as an emergency, trauma, and acute care nurse. Her leadership will steer the board as they focus on enhancing the quality of emergency nursing.

2. Sean Elwell, DNP, RN, NE-BC, TCRN, CPEN, EMT - Chairperson-elect
Serving as the senior director at Nemours Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, Sean’s expertise in pediatric trauma and critical care will be crucial for the hospital's future direction.

3. Roger Casey, MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, FAEN - Secretary/Treasurer
Roger, engaged with Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Kennewick, Washington, will oversee the financial responsibilities and ensure the board's actions align with BCEN's mission.

4. Allen C. Wolfe Jr., MSN, CNS, APRN, CFRN, CCRN, CTRN, TCRN, CMTE, FAASTN - Immediate Past Chairperson
Allen is recognized for his contributions at Life Link III in Bloomington, Minnesota, where he leads clinical education efforts.

Returning Members-at-large:


  • - Brody Eick, MBA, BSN, BS, RN, CEN, CCRN, TCRN, NE-BC
  • - Emily Werthman, PhD, RN, CBRN
Both are experienced professionals who have returned to their posts to continue advancing the organization's initiatives.

New Members-at-large:


  • - Rebecca Geyer, MSN, RN, TCRN
Bringing her insights from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, Rebecca will focus on performance improvement in trauma services.
  • - Pamela Vanderberg, MSN, MBA, CEN, TCRN
As Vice President of trauma and burn services at Grady Memorial Hospital, Pamela's experience will be invaluable in enhancing the hospital's emergency services.

5. Public Representative: Robert Corrao, Executive Chairman, Harbor, Scottsdale, Arizona
6. Ex-officio Member: Janie Schumaker, MBA, BSN, RN, CEN, ICE-CCP, CENP, CPHQ, FABC - BCEN CEO
Janie's leadership will continue to guide the board as they implement BCEN’s strategic initiatives.
