CarLifeJapan Launches Camper Van Stays in Sugadaira for Rugby Camps

Introduction

From August 6 to August 31, 2025, CarLifeJapan, based in Minato City, Tokyo, will install five camper vans in Sugadaira Kogen, Nagano Prefecture. This initiative aims to alleviate the significant accommodation shortages experienced during the peak rugby training season, in response to requests from the Rugby Community Club (RCCA) based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. This marks the second year of the program, continuing from its success last year.

Background and Purpose

Every summer, Sugadaira Kogen is renowned as a training haven for rugby teams from all over Japan. During peak times, local accommodations often reach full capacity, leaving families, alumni, and staff without places to stay. To tackle this issue, CarLifeJapan has partnered with RCCA to provide camper vans, which will be available solely for accommodation purposes.

The camper vans will be conveniently situated a mere three-minute walk from the local convenience store. Guests will have access to modern amenities such as shared toilets and showers, ensuring that their stay is comfortable. Each camper van will be equipped with bed linens, blankets, air conditioning, a refrigerator, and a kitchenette for guests to enjoy.

Details of Camper Van Accommodations

  • - Duration: August 6 - August 31, 2025 (Approximately one month)
  • - Number of Vehicles: 5 camper vans, exclusively for lodging (not for transport)
  • - Location: Within walking distance from 7-Eleven Sugadaira
  • - Booking Begins: July 10, 2025

Due to its elevation of approximately 1,300 meters, Sugadaira Kogen provides a refreshing climate even during summer months, with cool mornings and evenings.

Types of Vehicles Available

The fleet will include a variety of camper vans, from basic models to those featuring a loft-style bed above the driver's seat. Examples include:
  • - Serengeti 500 (High Ace cab-over, pet-friendly)
  • - Toy Factory GT (High-end van model for beginners, pet-friendly)
  • - Living Stone (Stylishly designed Fiat Ducato model)

The elevated location allows for a pleasant breeze through the open windows, where guests can enjoy coffee while listening to the sounds of rugby being played nearby.

Advantages of This Initiative

  • - Addressing Accommodation Shortages: The camper vans provide flexibility during peak rugby training periods.
  • - Comfortable Features: Each van is equipped with comfortable sleeping arrangements and air conditioning, ensuring a pleasant stay during hot summer days.
  • - Simplified Stay: The vans will not be used for driving; this means guests can relax without the stress of transportation.
  • - Family and Pet-Friendly: These accommodations are designed to welcome families, alumni, and pets.

In addition to the camper van accommodations, guests can explore the surrounding areas, such as the Rugby Commune, which offers inviting social spaces amidst the lush greenery.

Future Potential for Mobile Hotels

CarLifeJapan sees potential in expanding this mobile hotel concept to other regions across Japan. Seasonal events, such as festivals, cherry blossom viewing, and various outdoor activities often lead to accommodation shortages in bustling areas. The company aims to utilize camper vans as temporary lodging solutions to facilitate tourism and ease local lodging shortages.
