New Jersey Hall of Fame Welcomes New Inductees
As America commemorates its 250th anniversary of independence, the
New Jersey Hall of Fame (NJHOF) has unveiled its class of 2026 inductees, a tribute to the legendary figures whose achievements have shaped the landscape of the Garden State and beyond. This vibrant class features an eclectic mix of notable individuals including the talented Grammy-winning artist
SZA, the state’s 50th Governor
Christine Todd Whitman, and the formidable former New York Giants linebacker
Lawrence Taylor.
The announcement was made in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where NJHOF Chairman
Jon F. Hanson remarked on the exceptional talent represented in this year’s cohort. He stated, _“The Class of 2026 showcases the diverse talent, resilience, and spirit of achievement that define the great state of New Jersey. Each inductee, through their creativity, leadership, and pursuit of excellence, has made impactful contributions that continue to inspire future generations.”_
To honor these remarkable individuals, the
18th Annual NJHOF Induction Ceremony will take place on
September 24, 2026, at the newly opened
Dream Live Performing Arts Center at American Dream. This year, viewers can anticipate a memorable event hosted by the renowned actor
Danny DeVito, with details on general admission tickets to be released in due course.
Governor
Mikie Sherrill expressed her pride in recognizing such a diverse and impactful group of individuals. A Closer Look at the Inductees
This year’s inductees come from a variety of fields, showcasing the multifaceted talents originating from New Jersey. The class highlights include:
- - Arts & Letters: Big Joe Henry, a beloved radio personality known for his philanthropic efforts.
- - Education, Research, and Engineering: Geraldine R. Dodge, (posthumous), recognized for her literary contributions and charitable work, alongside Thomas M. Eastwick, founder of Eastwick College.
- - Enterprise: James E. Burke, the former CEO of Johnson & Johnson, and Robert C. Garrett, CEO of New Jersey's largest health network, Hackensack Meridian Health.
- - Performing Arts: The inductees include the legendary rock band The Rascals and SZA.
- - Public Service: Donald Milford Payne Sr. (posthumous), the first African American elected to Congress from New Jersey, alongside Governor Christine Todd Whitman.
- - Sports: Recognized figures like Dr. John J. McMullen (posthumous), owner of the New Jersey Devils, and Lawrence Taylor, a titan of American football.
- - Unsung Hero: Tom Weatherall, the CEO of Make-A-Wish® New Jersey, was also honored for his significant contributions.
The selection of these 13 inductees was made from a pool of 60 nominees following a public voting process. There is a possibility of additional inductees being announced later, as the NJHOF continues to celebrate the achievements of New Jerseyans.
