Seaspan Launches the Glovis Lighthouse: A Revolutionary Dual-Fuel LNG Carrier



Seaspan Corporation, a leading independent owner and operator of maritime assets, has announced the successful maiden voyage of the Glovis Lighthouse, marking a significant milestone in maritime logistics. This state-of-the-art vessel is designed for transporting cars and trucks using dual-fuel LNG technology, with a remarkable capacity to carry 10,800 CEUs (Car Equivalent Units).

The Glovis Lighthouse represents one of the largest classes of automobile transport ships operating globally today. It showcases Seaspan's commitment to incorporating advanced, eco-friendly vessels capable of meeting future energy needs while ensuring operational efficiency. Built in collaboration with Hyundai Glovis, a prominent name in automotive logistics, the ship is equipped with 14 decks, including four that are adjustable to enhance loading flexibility and reduce emissions per vehicle transported.

This innovative ship operates using a dual-fuel LNG propulsion system, which is expected to lower carbon emissions by approximately 24% compared to conventional fuel types. The Glovis Lighthouse features cutting-edge engine and fuel systems and an onboard generator that further optimizes energy efficiency and minimizes methane emissions, rendering it one of the most environmentally advanced PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers) in operation.

The versatility of the Glovis Lighthouse extends beyond just LNG; it is built to also utilize methanol and ammonia as alternative fuel sources. Such flexibility supports long-term emission reduction strategies as alternative fuels become more accessible.
