This certification offers four levels: Level 3, Level 2, Japanese Craft Whisky (JC) Level, and Level 1, catering to both novices and experts. Levels 3, 2, and JC will be conducted as home exams, allowing candidates the flexibility to take the tests at their own pace in a comfortable environment. In contrast, the top-tier Level 1 will be held at specified locations in Tokyo and Osaka.

The whisky examination serves not only whisky enthusiasts but also those involved in the alcohol industry, including restaurant staff, and individuals keen on enhancing their knowledge systematically.

  • - Level 3: Aimed at beginners familiar with the basics of whisky, particularly Scotch.
  • - Level 2: Targets intermediate learners wanting to deepen their whisky expertise.
  • - JC Level: Focused on Japanese Craft Whisky, this level is perfect for those wishing to understand domestic distilleries and trends.

Exam Overview for the 23rd Whisky Certification


Level 1 (On-Site Exam)


  • - Date: September 27, 2026
  • - Locations: Tokyo and Osaka
  • - Fee: 6,600 yen

Level 3, 2, and JC Levels (Home Exams)


  • - Test Period: September 18 (Friday) to September 28 (Monday), 2026
  • - Fees: Level 3 - 4,400 yen, Level 2 - 5,500 yen, JC Level - 5,500 yen
  • - Discount: 10% off if you apply for two or more levels!
  • - Application Deadline: August 27, 2026
  • - Eligibility: Must be 20 years or older. Note that taking Level 1 requires prior certification of Level 2 or the Whisky Connoisseur qualification.
