Launch of Finance Mix Accelerator Program for Startups in Tokyo: Apply Now!

Introducing the Finance Mix Accelerator Program

The Finance Mix Accelerator, an initiative by INQ in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, aims to optimize startup fundraising by providing diverse financing options. Launched with the mission to transform aspiring entrepreneurs into accomplished business leaders, INQ invites companies to apply for its 1st Batch of the program.

Background of the Program

In recent years, the Japanese government has introduced a five-year plan for nurturing startups, broadening the horizons of entrepreneurial support schemes and diversifying the players involved in financing. These include venture capitalists, financial institutions, and local government bodies. However, the funding environment is undergoing significant changes, including rising interest rates and amendments to public listing standards, leading to a concentration of funds in fewer high-growth companies. This results in a polarized funding landscape.

In this context, solely relying on equity financing can jeopardize future fundraising capabilities and become a bottleneck for growth. Thus, the concept of 'finance mix' is becoming increasingly relevant.

Understanding Finance Mix

Finance mix refers to the strategic combination of various financing methods—such as equity, loans, venture debt, cash-flow support services, and grants—to secure growth funds while preserving future financing abilities. This program aims to promote awareness of the finance mix approach and create real-world case studies to enhance the realization of the future envisioned by startups. Additionally, it fosters a foundation for shared knowledge in the startup ecosystem.

For a deeper understanding, listeners can check out the ongoing podcast series 'Entrepreneurial Debt Financing,' which features discussions on the program and the evolving funding landscape.

Program Structure

The Finance Mix Accelerator program aims to facilitate fundraising through multiple financing avenues. The program comprises three core components:
1. Finance Mix Lectures - Education sessions to equip participating companies with knowledge.
2. Mentoring - Support from various finance specialists, including CFOs and accountants, who will guide startups through their unique journeys.
3. Pitch Events - Opportunities for startups to present their business to potential investors and financing sources.

Who Can Apply?

The program primarily targets startups based in Tokyo or those planning to expand into the region. Eligible companies should be under ten years old, innovative, growth-oriented, and capable of effectively utilizing investments. Key representatives must actively participate throughout the program's six-month duration.

Incentives and Rewards

Startups that successfully implement a finance mix strategy during the program will qualify for an incentive of ¥1,000,000 ($9,000) to further empower their growth. INQ encourages all ambitious entrepreneurs looking for diverse financing opportunities to apply.

Visual Identity and Future Plans

The program’s branding, represented by 'FMX,' showcases geometric elements reminiscent of building blocks, symbolizing the blend of finance with various fields. This dynamic identity evolves to adapt to the ever-changing business landscape, embodying both creativity and innovation.

Upcoming events include the launch of the 2nd Batch of the Finance Mix Accelerator in 2026 and the hosting of the first 'Finance Mix Summit,' aimed at expanding shared resources and knowledge among stakeholders.
