Bybit Becomes First Virtual Asset Operator Licensed in UAE by SCA

Bybit's Historic Milestone in the UAE

Bybit, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, proudly announced that it has officially obtained the operator license for a virtual asset platform from the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This achievement represents a significant milestone for both Bybit and the UAE's aspiration to become a global hub for digital assets.

Receiving this complete license from the SCA is historic as it marks Bybit as the first cryptocurrency platform to achieve such a certification. With this approval, Bybit can now align all its global products and services with established regulatory standards, ensuring a high level of quality, transparency, and security for its users.

The SCA's rigorous compliance framework requires operators to adhere to strict standards, which serves to promote a safe trading environment. Bybit's commitment to these values is now reinforced, allowing it to navigate the complexities of regulatory requirements in the UAE and beyond. This license also highlights Bybit's long-term global strategy, demonstrating its dedication to introducing cryptocurrencies to local markets while ensuring safety and compliance.

A Strong Start

In February 2025, Bybit received initial approval from the SCA, facilitated by the Blockchain Centre in Abu Dhabi, helping the exchange navigate the regulatory landscape. Now, the SCA's decision to issue a full license underscores the regulator's confidence in Bybit’s robust security infrastructure and operational transparency.

This accomplishment is part of a series of regulatory milestones achieved by Bybit throughout 2025, which include securing a MiCAR license in May and resuming operations in India by September. These steps reflect Bybit's strategic aim to expand its global presence, focusing on compliance and building a sustainable operational foundation across major jurisdictions.

Leadership Insight

Ben Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Bybit, expressed, "The granting of the SCA's virtual asset operator license underscores our unwavering commitment to instill trust through compliance and transparency. The UAE has emerged as a global leader in digital asset regulation, and this recognition bears testament to the strength of our security and governance standards."

Zhou goes on to say that regulation forms the bedrock of sustainable growth for Bybit, and that this license is a new milestone in its regulatory roadmap - extending from MiCAR compliance in Europe to active engagement in India and now the UAE. Bybit continuously sets new benchmarks for a secure and responsible digital asset ecosystem.

Helen Liu, co-CEO of Bybit, also acknowledged the SCA’s support during the authorization process, "We sincerely thank the Securities and Commodities Authority for their trust and support throughout this licensing procedure. The SCA's clear, strong, and well-structured regulatory framework provides a solid basis for global platforms like Bybit to operate confidently and transparently."

Commitment to the UAE

With the SCA’s operator license, Bybit will now offer regulated virtual asset trading services, brokerage, custody, and fiat currency conversion to both retail and institutional clients within the UAE. Plans are in place to enhance local operations by establishing a larger regional operational hub in Abu Dhabi, aiming to hire over 500 employees between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This will accelerate local hiring in compliance, operations, and customer support while also introducing new Web3 education and innovation programs in collaboration with local partners.

Bybit's ongoing investment in talent, technology, and infrastructure reinforces its long-term commitment to supporting the UAE's ambition to become a global center for digital assets and financial innovation. As Bybit continues to grow, it strategically partners with leading blockchain protocols to facilitate a simpler and more open decentralized ecosystem.

As the landscape for cryptocurrencies continues to evolve, Bybit remains committed to bridging the gap between traditional finance and decentralized finance, empowering developers, creators, and enthusiasts alike to unleash the full potential of Web3.
