Chiba Prefecture Announces Selected Companies for Innovative Startup Growth Program 2023

In a significant move towards bolstering regional innovation, CIC Japan, headquartered in Toranomon, Tokyo, has announced the companies selected for the 2023 edition of the "Innovative Startup Growth Promotion Project" under the auspices of Chiba Prefecture. This initiative, executed by CIC Catalyst APAC, aims to empower startups with essential resources, including mentorship and networking opportunities tailored to their specific needs.

Selected Startups: Nurturing Innovation and Growth

Four promising startups have been chosen for this year's program, each bringing unique technological advancements and business models to the table:

1. MOFgraphy Inc.

This startup, emerging from the University of Tokyo, specializes in the development and commercialization of liquid-phase separation technology utilizing Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOF). Focused on applications in pharmaceuticals, functional materials, and chemicals, MOFgraphy collaborates with various enterprises for proof tests and joint development. Through this program, they aim to accelerate product development, expand customer outreach, and forge stronger connections with corporate partners and investors for domestic and international expansion.

2. Perfect Imaging Laboratory Inc.

This startup, spun out from the Quantum Science and Technology Agency (QST), is dedicated to innovative medical imaging processing and analysis methods using AI for radiation diagnostics and treatment. Under this initiative, they will work on securing funding and talent for global expansion while enhancing collaborations with domestic and international manufacturers to widen their market reach.

3. PhaseShift Technologies (In Preparation)

Currently in its founding stage, PhaseShift is developing an on-site system designed to recover valuable resources, such as iodine, which are often discarded in industrial wastewater. This program will facilitate technical evaluations necessary for piloting their recovery techniques in real wastewater conditions in collaboration with local institutions in Chiba.

Formed from Chiba University’s research, ReBond aims to chemically recycle plastic waste, transforming it back into high-quality materials. With proprietary technology for extracting valuable raw materials from waste, they will initially focus on polycarbonate resins, striving to contribute to a circular economy. The program will aid them in concretizing business plans, fostering alliances with corporations, developing intellectual property strategies, and more to facilitate societal application.

CIC Catalyst APAC will assign dedicated mentors to analyze business conditions, identify challenges, and formulate tailored support plans for each selected company, conducting regular monthly check-ins and mentoring sessions.
