Claros Technologies Achieves Major Milestone in High-Throughput PFAS Destruction with Groundbreaking Pilot Project

Claros Technologies Achieves Major Disruption in PFAS Destruction

Claros Technologies has recently announced a significant advancement in the fight against per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) with the successful completion of the world's first large-scale demonstration of high-throughput PFAS destruction using ultraviolet (UV) technology. This groundbreaking pilot project, conducted in collaboration with Daikin America, Inc. at their facility in Decatur, Alabama, represents a major step toward scalable and cost-effective elimination of these harmful substances from industrial wastewater.

A Remarkable Breakthrough

Since 2012, Daikin America has made significant strides in reducing high-molecular-weight PFAS in their wastewater treatment processes. This latest pilot program with Claros not only proves the technical feasibility of degrading long, short, and ultra-short chain PFAS through UV technology but also demonstrates its economic viability. During the course of the pilot test, Claros's patented UV photochemical method achieved an impressive over 99.99% destruction rate of targeted PFAS compounds. The system successfully treated more than 190,000 liters of wastewater through a high-flow approach, capable of processing thousands of liters per minute.

Michelle Bellanca, CEO and co-founder of Claros Technologies, emphasized the pivotal role Daikin America played in this significant milestone. She stated, "It is a great honor to collaborate with Daikin America on this groundbreaking initiative. Their vision, leadership, and commitment to investing in next-generation solutions have made this achievement possible. This pilot project not only demonstrates that large-scale PFAS destruction is feasible today but also sets new standards for ecological sustainability across the manufacturing sector. Claros is proud to have assisted Daikin in showcasing what can be achieved when innovation meets courageous, forward-thinking action."

The Road Ahead

Building on the success of this initial pilot project, Claros and Daikin America are planning further pilot initiatives and collaborations. The next phase aims to enhance the flow and destruction capabilities of the technology, paving the way for commercial applications. As industries continue to grapple with the implications of PFAS in the environment and public health, advancements like these are crucial.
