CME Group's Cryptocurrency Trading Volumes Soar to New Heights



In a landmark achievement, CME Group, recognized as the foremost global derivatives marketplace, reported an unprecedented daily trading volume in its cryptocurrency futures and options suite, reaching 794,903 contracts on November 21, 2025. This volume surpasses the previous record of 728,475 contracts set just a few months prior on August 22, 2025. Year-To-Date Performance


Notably, CME Group's cryptocurrency suite has demonstrated impressive growth throughout 2025. The year-to-date average daily volume (ADV) has surged to 270,900 contracts, equivalent to about $12 billion in notional value, marking a substantial 132% increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the average open interest (OI) has also seen a significant rise, with current averages hitting 299,700 contracts (around $26.6 billion), representing an 82% increase from 2024.

Quarterly Insights


The fourth quarter of the year has been particularly fruitful, with an ADV of 403,200 contracts translating to $14.2 billion in notional value, a dramatic improvement of 106% compared to Q4 2024. The average OI during the same period has reached 493,700 contracts, correlating to a notable 117% rise versus the previous year.
