Beyond Limits Life Skills Academy: A New Chapter for Colorado Teens
In an inspiring move for youth in Colorado, former University of Colorado quarterbacks have banded together to form the Beyond Limits Life Skills Academy, a nonprofit organization focusing on empowering local teenagers with essential life skills.
Founded by GiGi Hatcher along with her husband, Mark Hatcher, and fellow quarterback Charles "CJ" Johnson, the Academy is set to provide a year-long life skills program at no cost to 75 students aged 12 to 18. This initiative aims to equip young individuals with the confidence and abilities they need for success in schools, colleges, and workplaces.
The Academy builds on the foundations laid by GiGi's previous project, Etiquette on the Runway, which successfully aided over 800 youths in character development and community involvement since 2012. With its transition to a nonprofit, Beyond Limits hopes to massively increase its impact and enrollment capacity.
GiGi Hatcher emphasized, "Our mission has always centered on giving young people the confidence, skills, and support they need. The shift to a nonprofit model enables us to reach many more students while alleviating financial concerns for families."
Curriculum and Goals
The curriculum of Beyond Limits Life Skills Academy is robust, featuring topics such as:
- - Confidence Building: Techniques to boost self-esteem.
- - Public Speaking & Leadership Development: Skills to communicate effectively and inspire others.
- - Financial Literacy & Budgeting: Guidance on managing personal finances.
- - Interview & Career Readiness: Preparation for future job opportunities.
- - Conflict Resolution: Strategies to handle disputes and challenges.
- - Personal Safety Awareness: Information on staying safe in various environments.
- - Drug & Alcohol Education: Raising awareness of substance abuse risks.
- - Goal-Setting & Personal Responsibility: Teaching the importance of accountability and planning.
To support its goals, the Academy has launched a
$150,000 fundraising campaign, designed to ensure all students can participate without financial barriers. This campaign will run until December 31, 2026, with plans to begin the next semester of classes in the fall.
Mark Hatcher stated, "Every dollar we invest in these students creates opportunities that can change their lives' trajectories. We are dedicated to building future leaders by empowering them with practical skills that they can carry forward."
Success Stories
One notable success story includes 25-year-old Tajinae Turner, a graduate of the Academy who came in as a timid youth and left as a confident leader ready to tackle the world. Now an actress in Hollywood, she credits her transformation to her time spent at the Academy. Her mother, Crystal T. Vann, reflects, "This program has had a profound impact on my daughter, instilling leadership abilities, vital life skills, and a sense of community engagement."
Invitation to Open House
To introduce the community to its offerings, the Beyond Limits Life Skills Academy will hold its first classroom session as a nonprofit on
August 1. Interested media and community members are invited to witness classroom activities and interview program leaders along with students and parents.
This new initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a supportive environment for Colorado’s youth, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools to navigate their future successfully.
