Huawei's AI-Ready Data Storage Revolutionizes Telecom Operators for the Future

Huawei's AI-Ready Data Storage Solution

In a groundbreaking announcement at MWC 2025, Dr. Peter Zhou, the President of Huawei's Data Storage Product Line, delivered a notable keynote that explored how their AI-Ready data storage solution is set to transform telecommunications operators. With the increasing demand for data as industries evolve with artificial intelligence capabilities, the focus is shifting towards utilizing data effectively to maximize business value.

Dr. Zhou emphasized the significance of AI in unlocking the potential of data, calling it a golden era for data management. He pointed out that global telecom operators are continuously assessing the commercial viability of leveraging application scenarios such as smart homes and digital factories. This trend highlights an urgent requirement for improved data storage solutions and innovative business models.

To address these challenges, Huawei introduced its AI-Ready data lake, which is designed to break down data silos, making data visible and manageable. This enhanced visibility facilitates the management of vast amounts of data and ensures its availability for critical production tasks. Among the innovations presented was the next-generation All-Flash OceanStor Dorado converged storage solution, boasting an impressive Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) capacity of 100 million. These enterprise-level solutions enable effective AI training and inference, supporting revenue-generating services like mobile financial services.

Huawei’s advancements also include the OceanStor Pacific All-Flash storage solution, which provides scalable, high-density, and energy-efficient data storage, with the capability to handle exabyte-scale storage pressure associated with services such as live streaming and augmented reality gaming. Complementing this offering, the new OceanProtect All-Flash backup storage delivers data recovery speeds five times faster than industry standards—extremely beneficial for urgent services like emergency drills or AI application development.

When deploying AI technology, operators encounter multiple obstacles, including inadequate data engineering, inefficient AI model development platforms, lengthy data preparation times, and complicated AI application development cycles. To tackle these issues, Huawei's DCS AI solution presents an all-encompassing set of AI tools and a containerized environment that accelerates the fine-tuning and widespread deployment of AI models.

In addition, Dr. Zhou introduced FlashEver, a business model tailored for telecom operators to optimize their investments. This model is designed for flexibility, allowing for seamless updates in live networks and safeguarding investments over time. Huawei’s data storage platform services also offer flexible purchasing options, aligning with strict service level agreements (SLAs), which guarantees premium customer experiences.

Reaffirming Huawei's commitment to innovation in data storage, Dr. Zhou declared their ongoing mission to establish a foundation for AI-ready data storage capabilities. This effort is essential to support the widespread adoption of AI across the telecommunications sector, ensuring operators can navigate the evolving landscape efficiently. The company’s philosophy centers on transforming how data is viewed and utilized, promising significant implications for future developments in the industry.

With these advancements, Huawei is set to empower telecom operators, fundamentally changing the way they handle data and incorporate AI into their service offerings.
