Clarios Honored for Sustainability Commitment

On January 16, 2025, in Hanover, Germany, Clarios, the world’s foremost low-voltage battery manufacturer, was awarded the prestigious "Excellence in Sustainability" by ATR International. This recognition highlights Clarios's commitment to eco-friendly practices and its leading circular economy footprint, which ATR described as "best-in-class."

Recognizing Clarios’s Commitment to Sustainability

Clarios's dedication to transforming sustainable mobility solutions and showcasing a robust recycling process makes it a standout in the automotive battery industry. ATR International, a prominent international trade association in the automotive aftermarket, lauded Clarios for setting industry standards. The award was presented during the ATR International Preferred Suppliers Forum held in Stuttgart, Germany.

Representatives from Clarios, including Bernd Evers, EMEA Sales Director; Lisa Klein, EMEA Brand Marketing Director; and Alexander Bruchwald, Senior International Key Account Manager, accepted the honor on behalf of the company. During the ceremony, Theres Gosztonyi, Vice President of Aftermarket EMEA at Clarios stated, "This award is a testament to our sustainability efforts being recognized by both our industry peers and clients. Being the first recipient of this ATR award is an extraordinary achievement for us."

A Commitment to Circular Economy

Clarios is renowned for its advanced ability to recycle lead batteries. The company operates an impressive network that processes 8,000 used batteries every hour. Christian Rosenkranz, Vice President of Sustainability and General Affairs EMEA at Clarios, emphasized that all materials used in their batteries are designed with recycling in mind, ensuring that they can be responsibly recovered and utilized in the manufacturing of new batteries or other products.

Clarios has also received the International Sustainability Award in 2023, acknowledging its commitment to closing the loop on materials used. Their recycling efforts have resulted in 76% of the lead and 54% of the plastic in their batteries coming from recycled sources, significantly reducing waste and environmental impact.

With the rising demand for advanced low-voltage batteries driven by regulatory emissions reductions, Clarios recognizes that circularity is crucial to their sustainability agenda. “Sustainable development and corporate social responsibility are at the core of our operations. The global need for energy-efficient batteries is higher than ever, and we are committed to meeting these challenges by upholding sustainable practices in every aspect of our business,” Rosenkranz added.
