Huawei Technologies is stepping up to support Yunnan Power Grid Co., Ltd. in the establishment of a next-generation high-speed carrier network. Located in the southwestern region of China, Yunnan Power Grid holds a pivotal role as a key energy hub while focusing on the widespread transport of clean energy and the proliferation of smart grid technologies. To tackle these pressing issues, Yunnan Power Grid selected the SPN (Service Provider Network) system as the driving force behind its next-gen carrier network expansion, embedding this initiative within its 14th and 15th five-year plans. The company has already begun the phased rollout of this technology across 16 cities, laying down a robust communication foundation for the next two decades. Dual Benefits: Enhanced Experience and Long-term Value



Since its pilot version was introduced in 2022, the SPN has progressed from a technical beta to a standardized framework across all of Yunnan Province. This advancement has been significantly exemplified through its deployment in cities like Zhaotong and Pu'er, realizing the full value of the next-generation carrier network.

One of the prominent achievements has been overcoming bandwidth limitations. The SPN has addressed previously problematic bandwidth issues by enhancing capacity from existing thresholds of 155 Mbit/s to levels ranging from 10 Gbit/s. The SPN devices upgrade the access layer bandwidth at substations, power plants, and customer centers to 1 Gbit/s, satisfactorily meeting the standards set forth by China Southern Power Grid. Additionally, the aggregation and core layers can be scaled up to accommodate 50 Gbit/s or even 100 Gbit/s, depending on site size and service requirements. This solution facilitates finely grained control with bandwidth increments as low as 10 Mbit/s for secure isolation of private electrical lines, all while supporting broadband services like transmission video surveillance and seamless development.

Moreover, this enhanced bandwidth improves efficiency in monitoring and maintenance operations considerably. Huawei's SPN solution enables real-time Service Level Agreement (SLA) monitoring, assessing latency and packet loss, and localizing faults within mere minutes. This remarkable capability has reportedly reduced maintenance costs associated with Sudden Device Failures (SDH). For instance, at Qujing Power Supply Bureau, the inspection time has been slashed from 30 minutes down to just 3 minutes, with overall cycle maintenance duration decreasing from over 7 hours to merely 21 minutes. With the implementation of predefined monitoring points, the operations and maintenance center now detects critical faults up to 15 days in advance. Over a six-month period, on-site inspections dropped from 112 to 61 visits, marking a 45.54% reduction.

In addition to these operational advancements, the SPN significantly enhances the intelligence of transport services. Huawei's SPN solution accommodates a broad spectrum of electric power services from low-latency tele-protection to high-traffic video, all with dependable transmission quality. Leveraging solid and soft segmentation through the FlexE technology, the system guarantees secure isolation amongst various services while optimizing bandwidth utilization. The dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 capability facilitates local redirecting and offers seamless access to IoT applications such as monitoring transmission lines and integrating sources with networks, loads, and storage units.

Lastly, the SPN ensures long-term investment security. It supports speed upgrades from 25 Gbit/s to 400 Gbit/s with cost-efficient extensions, effectively averting the need for redundant infrastructure development.
