Strengthening PRIZM® TMT Connector Manufacturing: A Partnership with US Conec



Fujikura Ltd., led by President and CEO Naoki Okada, has established a collaboration with US Conec Ltd. under the leadership of President and CEO Joe Graham. This agreement aims to enhance the production and sales of the next-generation PRIZM® TMT optical multi-core connectors by utilizing cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. Fujikura is not alone in this initiative; companies like Corning Incorporated and Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corporation have also formed individual agreements with US Conec, contributing to the standardization and widespread adoption of this remarkable technology.

The Need for Unified Interfaces



As the prevalence of generative AI grows, data centers are expanding rapidly, demanding even higher density multi-core fiber connectors. The PRIZM® TMT connector employs an advanced optical technology developed by US Conec that allows for a high-density optical wiring solution, enabling it to be integrated into the MMC connector. This design is particularly beneficial for large-scale AI data centers, providing superior scalability and density while maintaining low-loss performance. With the accelerated construction of data centers worldwide, the standardization of this ultra-compact multi-core fiber connector through the PRIZM® TMT is essential to strengthening a global supply chain that supports our digital society.

Unique Features of PRIZM® TMT Connectors



The front end of the PRIZM® TMT connector features a lens molded from resin that allows light to pass through, resulting in a micro-hole structure that achieves high-precision alignment with minimal effort—simply by inserting the optical fiber. This innovation enables a low-loss, contaminant-resistant extended beam connection and reduces connector mating force by approximately 70% when compared to traditional connectors that require physical contact between fiber end faces. Moreover, its design ensures reliability and performance during high-density bulk inserting, significantly reducing time and labor for cleaning and troubleshooting during installation.

With this construction, the process of attaching optical fibers to connectors becomes much simpler, paving the way for ultra-dense multi-core fiber connectors to become feasible.
