Piedmont Healthcare's Major Investment in Georgia

Piedmont Healthcare, a prominent health system in Georgia, has announced plans to invest nearly $600 million for the relocation of the Piedmont Newton Hospital. This investment, aimed at enhancing medical services and capacity, will be the second-largest capital project in the organization’s history, coming after the Marcus Tower's completion in 2020 at the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital campus.

Originally partnered with Newton Medical Center in 2015, Piedmont aimed to bring stability to a facility that had struggled with financial sustainability. Since then, it has poured in $70 million to enhance community services and upgrade the aging hospital, which dates back to 1954. Currently, the existing hospital has 128 licensed beds but is constrained by its outdated and landlocked facilities.

The planned relocation aims to modernize healthcare delivery, providing greater access to high-quality care. Piedmont Newton Hospital plays a critical role in the local healthcare landscape, employing around 1,000 staff members and boasting over 500 physicians along with 200 Advanced Practice Practitioners. With approximately 8,000 inpatient admissions in fiscal year 2026 and a steady traffic of more than 52,000 visits to its 32-bed Emergency Department, the facility demonstrates a high demand for its services.

Additionally, the hospital has received an impressive 11 A grades from the Leapfrog Group for patient safety, showcasing its commitment to maintaining high standards in healthcare. The hospital also offers specialized care in areas such as Neonatal Intensive Care and operates as a Primary Stroke Center for the region, underscoring its vital role in the local health ecosystem.

Piedmont Healthcare further extends its reach through its extensive network, which includes 28 hospitals and over 2,000 locations, catering to more than 4.5 million patients annually.
