Duke Energy Introduces Innovative Incentives for EV Owners in Florida
Duke Energy's New Programs for Florida Electric Vehicle Owners
Duke Energy Florida has recently unveiled three groundbreaking programs aimed at expanding the options available to electric vehicle (EV) customers, both residential and commercial. The Charger Prep Credit, Off-Peak Charging Credit, and Fleet Advisory programs are designed to make EVs more accessible while supporting the state's energy transition goals.
Charger Prep Credit Program
This initiative allows both residential and business customers to receive a one-time credit to help offset the costs associated with installing EV charging infrastructure. This includes essential upgrades such as new electric plug-in outlets and electrical wiring enhancements necessary for Level 2 or more advanced EV chargers. However, it’s worth noting that the program does not cover charging station hardware, software, or permit fees. For those interested, more details can be found on Duke Energy's website.
Off-Peak Charging Credit Program
The Off-Peak Charging Credit is tailored exclusively for residential customers, incentivizing them to charge their EVs during designated off-peak hours when the demand for electricity is lower. Customers can earn a $7.50 monthly credit on their bills by charging their vehicles during these times – specifically between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday to Friday, as well as anytime during weekends and holidays. Originally introduced as a pilot program, it quickly gained popularity with a substantial waitlist and has now transitioned into a permanent offering without an enrollment cap. More details are available online.
Fleet Advisory Program
Business customers can take advantage of the Fleet Advisory program, which offers up to $12,000 to offset the expenses incurred during a fleet electrification study. This study aims to identify the benefits of converting their fleet vehicles to electric models. Businesses participating in the program will learn how to reduce their carbon footprint and potentially cut down on operational costs while enhancing their overall efficiency. To qualify, a business must operate a fleet that includes at least 20 light-duty vehicles or five medium/heavy-duty vehicles, among other criteria.
Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Melissa Seixas, the president of Duke Energy Florida, highlighted the economic and environmental advantages of EVs, noting how these programs aim to cater to customer needs while facilitating a broader energy transition. Duke Energy is committed to creating a smarter energy future and investing in essential upgrades to the electric grid. This commitment includes a focus on cleaner generation methods and overall environmental responsibility.
