Vans, the renowned action sports footwear and apparel brand, has kicked off its highly anticipated "Weatherized Classics" campaign starting October 30. This campaign, which aims to inspire stylish and comfortable winter adventures, features none other than Ayumu Hirano, a globally recognized rider and ambassador for Vans' skate shoes.
The collection showcases an urban outdoor theme, merging practicality with cutting-edge design to create all-weather footwear. Each piece in this series enhances Vans' iconic silhouettes with waterproofing, insulation, and comfort, allowing wearers to engage in various activities without limitations from weather or terrain—whether in the city or the wilderness.
At the forefront of this collection are the "Sk8-Hi Gore-Tex® Insulated" and the newly launched "Mountain Mid Gore-Tex® Insulated." Both models incorporate PFAS-free Gore-Tex® Duratherm insulation, delivering excellent breathability, waterproofing, and warmth. To ensure a comfortable wearing experience, Vans has added an UltraCush™ EVA footbed and an all-weather All-Trac rubber compound outsole, providing robust support against various terrains.
In addition to these flagship models, the ABC-MART exclusive options, "Gasley" and "Tyson," are also available. The "Gasley" features a water-repellent upper with a gusseted tongue to block out rain, ensuring reliability from daily life to outdoor adventures. Meanwhile, the lightweight "Tyson" sneaker excels in slip-resistance and water repellency, with a lineup that includes both traditional wheat color and fresh seasonal shades.
About Ayumu Hirano
Ayumu Hirano, the professional skater and snowboarder, began skateboarding at the tender age of four and quickly made his mark in snowboarding by securing a professional contract in the fourth grade. His remarkable talent shone through at the 2014 Sochi and 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, where he garnered silver medals in the snowboard halfpipe event. At just 15 years and 74 days, Hirano made history as the youngest Olympic medalist in snowboarding, a record recognized by the Guinness World Records.
In the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, he declared his intent to compete in both skateboarding and snowboarding, representing Japan in the newly official skateboard park discipline. Just six months later, at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Hirano showcased his groundbreaking triple cork 1440 in the snowboard halfpipe, earning gold and making him the first Japanese male to win the event. Along with two Winter X GAMES titles in 2016 and 2018, Hirano has achieved seven victories in the FIS World Cup and back-to-back Dew Tour wins in 2023 and 2024. He is a member of the TOKIO Inkarami team and joined the Vans family as a skate shoe and sneaker ambassador in 2024.
Ayumu Hirano's Thoughts
"This was my first time shooting outdoors with Vans, and it was a refreshing experience. The GORE-TEX® models seem great for use on snowy mountains, and I especially like the look and color of the Mountain Mid Gore-Tex® Insulated. With February approaching, I’m looking forward to wearing my favorite models while enjoying my time in the snow!"
