Verdagy Selects Black & Veatch for Clean Hydrogen Plant in Texas



In a significant step towards the advancement of clean energy, Verdagy, a leading player in the clean hydrogen electrolysis market, has appointed Black & Veatch as the front-end engineering design (FEED) contractor for its latest hydrogen plant. Situated near the Gulf Coast in Texas, this facility aims to produce a staggering 9,000 tons of clean hydrogen annually, with a substantial capacity of 60 megawatts. The projected timeline for the completion of the FEED study is set for May 2025, with the Final Investment Decision (FID) scheduled for July 2025.

According to Verdagy President Rahul Bammi, the collaboration with Black & Veatch is a strategic choice, capitalizing on their extensive expertise. He expresses enthusiasm about the project’s potential, stating that it will not only bring over $150 million in investments to Texas but will also create job opportunities while contributing to U.S. energy exports. This undertaking is seen as a foundational step towards upcoming projects that could exceed a gigawatt in capacity in Texas.

Black & Veatch brings a wealth of experience in engineering, procurement, and infrastructure development, making them a valuable asset for this project. Anand Pattani, vice president and managing director at Black & Veatch, highlighted their history of executing projects within the hydrogen sector. Their expertise will be critical in supporting Verdagy’s ambitions to strengthen the U.S. energy landscape and export capacity.

One of the highlights of this project is Verdagy’s innovative eDynamic® electrolyzers. These electrolyzers are designed to operate dynamically, adjusting to changes in the ERCOT grid in real-time. This technological advancement promises enhanced grid resilience, enabling maximized hydrogen production that adheres to rigorous RFNBO compliance to meet European RED III standards and U.S. Treasury guidelines under 45V compliance. Importantly, these electrolyzers are manufactured within the United States, further contributing to job creation across the domestic supply chain.

Verdagy's Dynamic AWE electrolyzers are recognized for delivering the lowest levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) and optimal asset utilization by efficiently integrating with renewable energy sources. Their production facility and research and development complex located in Moss Landing, California, further underscores their commitment to advancing cutting-edge hydrogen technologies.
