Crayon House Challenges the Culinary World with Organic Soup Rice

Crayon House Introduces Innovative Organic Soup Rice

On March 16, 2024, Crayon House Tokyo, located at 2-15-6 Kichijoji Honcho, Musashino City, unveiled an exciting new dish known as 'Soup Rice.' This unique menu item is inspired by the seventh nutrient, phytochemicals, and crafted entirely from 100% organic ingredients. Notably, this initiative marks what could be the world's first offering of its kind in a restaurant.

Celebrating 50 Years of Organic Excellence

As Crayon House celebrates its 50th anniversary on December 5, it seeks to embrace a future-focused vision by introducing new ventures. In line with this mission, they are dedicated to developing a menu that embodies the principle of 'medicinal food' using only organic ingredients. This innovative approach aims to intertwine culinary delight with health benefits.

What is Soup Rice?

Soup Rice is a delightful concoction offering a completely organic, vegan, and gluten-free dining experience. Priced at 1,200 yen (tax included), it features a choice of soup flavors - plain, miso, or soy sauce - accompanied by four side dishes. For those desiring a heartier option, guests can increase the amount of brown rice for an additional fee. Additionally, a smaller portion specifically designed for children, called the 'Kids Set,' is available for 750 yen (tax included).

Notably, the plain-flavored Soup Rice comes with flavorful sides such as pickled onions, kimchi, plum paste, and simmered beans, creating a delightful culinary experience.

Understanding Phytochemicals

Phytochemicals are functional compounds produced by plants to protect themselves from harmful elements like ultraviolet rays and pests. These nutrients can be found in varieties of colors, scents, and tastes, including polyphenols, known for their robust antioxidant properties and their ability to enhance immunity and detoxification, along with potential anti-cancer effects. The study of these plant functional components is relatively recent, having gained traction since the 1990s.

Since phytochemicals cannot be synthesized in the human body, they must be consumed through diet. Unfortunately, only a limited amount can be absorbed from raw vegetables. However, cooking can break down cell walls, allowing phytochemicals to dissolve; hence, enjoying them in soup is an ideal method.

The Inspiration Behind the Development

Crayon House's journey towards Soup Rice began with an inspiring encounter with renowned researchers in phytochemicals, the late Dr. Hiroshi Maeda and Dr. Hiroshi Takahashi, through an article in the organic magazine 'Iine.' Their research highlighted the exceptional benefits of phytochemical soup, leading to the development of the 'Organic Phytochemical Soup®,' which features organic garlic, carrots, cabbage, pumpkin, onion, and purified water, set to launch in October 2024.

Subsequently, in 2025, Crayon House is developing a 'Soup Rice' menu, combining their soup with organic brown rice—a nutrient-rich option high in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibers, promoting stable blood sugar levels and considered a 'complete' food.

Why Soup Rice is Groundbreaking

Soup Rice stands out due to its use of 100% organic ingredients. An organic menu based on phytochemicals represents a pioneering milestone in the culinary world. To keep the dining experience exciting, Crayon House has curated side options that complement the main dish beautifully, allowing for a varied yet consistent meal that can be enjoyed daily. This innovative 'Soup Rice' is a remarkable menu item that combines a phytochemical-rich soup with organic brown rice, aiming to provide essential nutrients that only plants can generate.

Crayon House invites everyone to discover this inspiring culinary innovation and appreciate the health benefits of dietary phytochemicals.
