Record Enrollment at Florida Polytechnic University

Florida Polytechnic University welcomed an impressive 2,342 students as it commenced the 2026-27 academic year on August 17. This enrollment figure is a significant leap of 35% over the past two years, moving from over 1,900 students in 2025 and more than 1,700 in 2024. This achievement reinforces Florida Poly's stature as Florida's only state university focused entirely on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

The incoming student body includes around 1,035 first-time students, among which almost 740 are entering college for the first time. This cohort also features new graduate students, transfer students, and the University’s inaugural group of student-athletes. With an eye on the future, Florida Poly aims to reach an enrollment of 3,000 students by 2030.

Dr. Devin Stephenson, the president of Florida Poly, emphasized that the growth highlights families’ recognition of the exceptional opportunities the university offers. He noted, "This momentum is propelling Florida Poly into an exciting new chapter of progress and possibility," without sacrificing the academic integrity that characterizes the institution. The university is focused on providing high-quality education that aligns with the demands of Florida's evolving job market.

The latest data reveals that 91% of the first-year students are from Florida, while the remaining 7.7% come from various states across the U.S., including New York, Colorado, Maine, and Washington. International students are also being welcomed, representing countries like Italy, Bolivia, Cameroon, and the UK.

Bryan Brooks, the vice president of student affairs and enrollment management, shared the excitement generated by the growing number of students on campus, stating, "The demand for a first-rate Florida Poly education has never been higher." To accommodate the influx of students, Florida Poly is planning to enhance its infrastructure, including developments in campus housing and dining facilities.

The university welcomed 32 new faculty members for the fall semester, indicating a strong commitment to maintaining academic excellence. Moreover, the introduction of new bachelor's degree programs in aerospace engineering and biomedical sciences reflects the institution’s commitment to evolve alongside job market needs. The biomedical sciences program is particularly noteworthy, featuring an accelerated six-year BS/DO pathway in collaboration with the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM).

Dr. Brad Thiessen, the provost, spotlighted that academic growth is imperative for meeting the workforce needs of Florida. By introducing more programs in burgeoning fields and recruiting skilled faculty, Florida Poly is enhancing the student learning experience and forging new pathways for future professionals.

To support the increasing enrollment, there’s also a rising demand for on-campus accommodation. The university had opened its third residential facility in 2024, which has already reached capacity. Plans for a fourth residence hall, which will include a dining hall capable of seating 600, are already in the works.

In addition to housing, Florida Poly is set to enrich its campus facilities by constructing a 138,400-square-foot Student Achievement Center (StAC), which will serve as a central hub for student resources, academic support, and collaborative spaces. The construction of this facility is projected to commence soon with a target opening set for Fall 2028.
