Westfield Specialty Reports Significant Growth in Q3 with 27% Increase in GWP to $1.82bn YTD
In a recent announcement, Westfield Specialty has disclosed impressive financial results for the first three quarters of 2026, with their gross written premium (GWP) soaring to $1.82 billion, reflecting a robust increase of 27.2% compared to the same timeline last year when it stood at $1.43 billion. This growth has surpassed the company’s original forecasts, showcasing Westfield Specialty's commitment to disciplined underwriting and strategic diversification.
The underwriting income for this period reached $77.9 million, accompanied by a competitive combined ratio (CR) of 93.2%. These metrics illustrate the company's effective management and operational efficiencies that contribute to its success in a fluctuating insurance market.
The breakdown of this substantial GWP indicates a balanced contribution from both the US and international markets, with 52% generated from the US Specialty business and 48% from its international operations based in London. Specifically, the US Specialty sector reported $951 million in GWP, marking a 25.9% increase. Meanwhile, the international side, Westfield Specialty International, yielded $867 million, reflecting an even stronger 28.8% growth.
Jack Kuhn, President of Westfield Specialty, attributed this outstanding performance to their focused approach on underwriting discipline, emphasizing profitable growth and high service standards. He noted that the progress beyond anticipated financial goals underscores the effectiveness of their diversified underwriting strategies. Furthermore, he highlighted the company's strategic expansion into various domains such as power and renewables, cyber risks, and inland marine products, which enhances their ability to meet diverse client needs.
"Building on our existing operations in the US, UK, Dubai, and our recent entry into the European marketplace, we have optimized our distribution channels to provide enhanced flexibility for our brokers and agents," stated Kuhn. He also pointed out the company's focus on attracting and retaining top-tier talent within the industry as a critical factor in fostering robust relationships with clients and partners in the brokerage space.
