Global Governance Seminar Held in Geneva to Launch New Book on Xi Jinping

Global Governance Seminar in Geneva

On February 24, 2026, a significant seminar centered around global governance took place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, coinciding with the launch of the English edition of the first volume of China's Governance Under Xi Jinping's Leadership. This event brought together around 200 representatives from various sectors, including the United Nations, international organizations, and the business community, to discuss the pressing issues in global governance.

Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, opened the seminar with insightful remarks highlighting the importance of China's Global Governance Initiative (GGI), proposed by President Xi Jinping in September 2025. Valovaya underscored the initiative's emphasis on dialogue, development, and mutually beneficial cooperation, asserting China’s considerable contributions to strengthening multilateralism.

As the global landscape has evolved dramatically since 1945, she noted, the United Nations remains the sole platform where nations can convene to tackle shared challenges and devise collective solutions.

Jia Guide, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, backed Valovaya's comments by addressing the rising threats of unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemonism, which jeopardize the existing multilateral order. He articulated that the Global Governance Initiative is crucial for safeguarding international order and enhancing global governance practices. Jia pointed out that the initiative has garnered support from over 150 countries and international organizations, demonstrating a substantial global response.

Highlighting the commitment to fostering a more just and equitable global governance system, Jia called for enhanced dialogue and collaboration among all parties involved. This approach aims to invigorate multilateral cooperation efforts and address the myriad challenges facing the world today.

The seminar also featured Fu Hua, the President of Xinhua News Agency, who introduced the attendees to the newly launched book. He described the publication as rich in detail and reflective of the extraordinary governance practices and significant achievements witnessed during this new era under Xi Jinping. The book aims to provide readers with a profound understanding of Xi's dedication and personal charisma in leadership.

Fu also reiterated Xinhua's commitment to promoting significant concepts associated with global governance through effective dialogue at multilateral platforms. The agency emphasizes enhancing interactions and collaborations with international organizations, aiming to showcase China's efforts in reforming and enhancing the global governance framework.

Apart from the discussions about the book, Xinhua also released an expert report concentrating on fostering international justice and collaboratively addressing global turbulence, emphasizing China's framework for global governance solutions.

In conclusion, the seminar proved to be a vital platform for sharing insights and strategies directed towards refining international governance structures, with a collective ambition to build a cooperative future. Through initiatives like the GGI, China seeks not only to redefine its role on the global stage but also to foster an inclusive framework that benefits all nations in navigating the complexities of contemporary global challenges.
