Heartwarming Christmas Celebration at Grand Hyatt Tokyo
On December 17, 2025, Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Minato, Tokyo, held a special Christmas gathering that brought together children from the nearby special needs school, Aiiku Gakuen, and Santa Claus. This event, which marked its ninth year, aimed to create cherished memories during the holiday season for a group of 18 students.
The event began with welcoming remarks from Michael Golden, the General Manager, who expressed his happiness about hosting the children once more. He stated, "Christmas is a special time spent with family and loved ones. Sharing this wonderful moment with all of you brings us great joy." As excitement filled the air, the highlight of the day arrived with the entrance of Santa Claus. The children's enthusiastic calls of "Santa-san!" signaled a joyful atmosphere as Santa made his appearance. The children, initially nervous, approached Santa, engaging in conversations and exchanges of warm handshakes, capturing smiles and laughter as they enjoyed their interaction.
After greetings, Santa and the children decorated a Christmas tree with ornaments made from recycled wine corks provided by the hotel, showing a commitment to sustainability. The event culminated in the distribution of Christmas presents to each child, sparking excitement and joy among them. A group photo marked the end of a heartwarming early Christmas celebration, filled with warmth and happiness for everyone involved.
About the Grand Hyatt Tokyo Christmas Event
The Christmas gathering is aimed to ensure that children with disabilities can experience the joy of visiting a hotel without feeling the urge to hold back. Since its inception in 2016, the event seeks to promote inclusivity in the hospitality experience. Following a pause due to the pandemic, the initiative resumed in 2021, reaching its ninth annual event this year.
The ornaments sold annually at the hotel are made from upcycled corks from champagne and wine bottles, supporting employment opportunities for people with disabilities in collaboration with the RE Foundation. This initiative aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting the reduction of inequality.
Comments from Aiiku Gakuen Principal, Taro Ouba
Principal Ouba shared his joy in reaching the ninth edition of this event, stating, "This gathering provides a valuable opportunity for children to positively envision adulthood and their future. At our school, we aim to cultivate an educational environment that encourages children to shape their daily lives actively. Events like this, where they are warmly welcomed and prepared for by the adults of society, instill great confidence in them. I observed the children engaging even more actively this year, asking Santa questions, which is a testament to their growth. Moreover, such festive moments help parents regain smiles and peace of mind to face their everyday challenges. We are sincerely grateful for being able to provide this warm celebration and sharing experience."
Comments from Grand Hyatt Tokyo General Manager, Michael Golden
Golden expressed his delight in hosting the students and teachers from Aiiku Gakuen again for a joyful Christmas experience. He reflected on Hyatt's global commitment to community contribution under the "World of Care" philosophy, emphasizing that this event is part of the hotel's efforts to foster connections with diverse communities. "This celebration is an important initiative that embodies our commitment to the community, and we will continue to engage in activities that promote inclusivity and support," he affirmed.
