Eco Wave Power's Wave Energy Project in Portugal Moves Forward Towards 2026 Implementation
Eco Wave Power Advances Portuguese Wave Energy Initiative
Eco Wave Power Global AB (WAVE) has successfully reached a significant milestone in its onshore wave energy project located in Porto, Portugal. Collaborating with the esteemed engineering firm MOQ Engineering, they are set to finalize the project's design and load calculations crucial for its success.
The initiative is precisely aligned with Portugal's ambitious renewable energy goals, which aim for 85% of electricity generation from renewables by 2030. This innovative project will also feature a unique underwater wave energy museum and educational center, which will be respectfully dubbed "The Gallery". This space will house Eco Wave Power's advanced energy conversion equipment beneath the breakwater, making it both a practical energy solution and a tourist attraction.
Upon completion of the design and calculations, which are anticipated to finalize by February 2025, Eco Wave Power will submit the full execution project to Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo, S.A. (APDL) for approval. Successful approval will signal the beginning of the production phase for the floaters and related structural components necessary for this wave energy venture.
Being the first MW-scale wave energy project in Porto, this initiative is not just important for Eco Wave Power but also represents a pivotal step towards the commercialization of wave energy technology globally. Apart from enhancing energy production from ocean waves, the project is projected to decrease the carbon footprint of the port, generate job opportunities, and notably contribute to Portugal's renewable energy landscape.
Inna Braverman, CEO of Eco Wave Power, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration with MOQ. She notes, "The expertise that MOQ Engineering brings is crucial in making sure we adhere to the highest safety and operational standards. With the completion of their work around the corner, we are determined to move closer to our goal of fully integrating wave energy into Portugal's renewable energy mix."
Manuel Cardoso from MOQ Engineering shares his enthusiasm for the partnership, underscoring their commitment to developing sustainable engineering solutions through cutting-edge technology. He remarked, "This project is a great opportunity to illustrate wave energy's potential as a sustainable power source and contributes to larger global sustainability."
Eco Wave Power’s commitment to utilizing ocean waves for energy generation is not limited to Portugal. The company is actively working on several other international projects, including upcoming installations in Taiwan and the Port of Los Angeles, and plans to share additional project announcements soon. This expansion not only solidifies Eco Wave Power's forefront position in the wave energy sector but also highlights its dedication to promoting renewable energy initiatives worldwide.
The innovative engineering solutions provided by MOQ aim for reduced environmental impacts, thereby reinforcing sustainability within the infrastructure framework. By fostering collaboration and leveraging advanced technology like Building Information Modelling (BIM) and parametric design, they ensure high safety, efficiency, and sustainability standards are upheld throughout the project.
In conclusion, the ongoing developments in Porto serve as a powerful reminder of the potential wave energy holds in making clean, sustainable electricity accessible. As Eco Wave Power prepares to launch this pioneering project, it paves the way for a future where renewable energy becomes increasingly integral to global energy systems.
