Cynthia Usui - Chief Empowerment Officer at SEKAIA
Cynthia Usui was born in 1959 in the Philippines and moved to Japan in 1980 as a government-sponsored foreign student. After graduating from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in 1985, she began her career in a trading company. After marrying a Japanese diplomat in 1986 and relocating to Liberia, she returned to Japan in 1988 to work for an advertising agency. After giving birth to her daughter in 1989, she became a full-time mother.
In 2007, at the age of 48, Cynthia took her first job in a Bangkok international school's cafeteria, becoming a manager just three months later. After returning to Japan in 2011 and working various positions, she joined the Japan Coca-Cola Company in 2018 and later became a country manager for a foreign hotel. In 2022, she transitioned into the IT sector.
Cynthia has authored several books, including "Eight Things Stay-at-Home Moms Should Do Before Re-entering the Workforce" and "How My Daughter Got Into Harvard, Yale, and Princeton." She also conducts workshops aimed at helping individuals reconstruct their careers.
Megumi Iguchi - President and CEO of Kanatta Inc.
Megumi Iguchi graduated from Yokohama National University in 2010 and began her career at KPMG. After three years, she joined LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton Japan as an analyst. In 2016, she established Kanatta Inc., a company dedicated to creating opportunities for women in growing industries through technology. Under her leadership, Kanatta launched two notable initiatives: Drone Job Plus, a female-only community in the male-dominated drone industry, and Cosmo Girls, aimed at promoting women's involvement in the space sector.
In 2024, Cosmo Girls will become the first women-centric community in Japan to successfully launch a satellite, and Megumi was awarded the Pioneer Award at the Forbes JAPAN WOMEN AWARD that same year.
