Subway's Flatbread Shortage: Apology and Taco Festival Extension
Subway, the popular sandwich chain operated by WATAMI FAST CASUAL MANAGEMENT Co., Ltd., has recently announced to its customers a significant development regarding its products. Due to unprecedented demand, the stock of their special flatbreads has run out, which was essential for their limited time taco offerings. Originally introduced on May 13, 2026, items like the "Chopped Salsa Tacos," "Rich Cheese Tacos," and "Mexican Meat Tacos" have far exceeded sales expectations, reaching almost five times the anticipated quantity. This overwhelming success has led to an unfortunate depletion of flatbread supplies across Japan.
Flatbreads produced specifically in the United States have limited availability due to their made-to-order nature, and as a result, the company cannot currently confirm when new stocks will arrive or when the flatbreads will be available for resale. Accordingly, once the flatbread inventory at any location is exhausted, stores will revert to selling only the regular bread. Subway sincerely apologizes to its customers who were looking forward to enjoying these delicious tacos made with flatbread.
In light of this situation, Subway has decided to show appreciation to its customers and mitigate the inconvenience caused by the flatbread shortage. The Taco Festival, initially scheduled to conclude on May 26, 2026, has now been extended to June 2, 2026, and regular bread sandwiches will be added to the offering.

Founded in 1965 in Connecticut, USA, Subway began as a simple sandwich shop created by Fred DeLuca when he was just 17 years old, aiming to earn money for college tuition. Since then, the custom sandwich-making style that accommodates each customer's preferences has gained popularity worldwide, leading to Subway's expansion into over 100 countries. In Japan, Subway opened its first store in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on March 25, 1992, and has since expanded across the nation.
Customers enjoy fresh bread baked daily in-store, filled with quality ingredients like roast beef, shrimp, and avocado, topped with crunchy vegetables. "Sandwich Artists" in Subway locations take pride in crafting each sandwich with care and attention to detail.
As Subway continues to grow, its mission remains focused on providing customers with an "Eat Fresh, Feel Good" experience. The company acknowledges the inconvenience caused by the flatbread shortage and appreciates its customers' continued understanding and support.
