The Exciting 30th Anniversary of Ballet Dragon Quest
2025 will mark a significant milestone for fans of both ballet and the iconic JRPG, Dragon Quest. The
Star Dancers Ballet Company is set to perform a special anniversary production of
Ballet Dragon Quest at the
New National Theatre in Tokyo, celebrating its 30 years since its debut in 1995. This groundbreaking performance will take place on
August 23rd and 24th, 2025.
Tokyo Symphony Orchestra will provide the music for this remarkable show, bringing to life the extensive score composed by Koichi Sugiyama. For the first time in the history of
Ballet Dragon Quest, the orchestra will accompany the ballet, enhancing the spectacular blend of storytelling through both dance and music.
Ballet Dragon Quest combines the rich narratives of the Dragon Quest series with the artistry of ballet. Since its initial performance over 50 times, it has captivated many audiences, making it a treasured artwork in the performing arts scene. With a grand total of
41 orchestrated pieces, this new rendition includes beloved melodies from the game series, along with original compositions tailored specifically for the ballet.
In a dazzling showcase of talent, the lead roles will be shared by
Rin Kohta Ota of the Bordeaux National Opera Ballet as the
White Hero/Grey Hero on August 23rd and
Shouhei Hayashida taking the role on August 24th.
Riku Ito, from the Birmingham Royal Ballet, will portray the
Black Hero on both days. The Princess role will be performed by
Risa Ikeda from the New National Theatre Ballet Company, gracing the stage on August 24th. Other prominent cast members include
Daisuke Ohno as the Demon King and
Daisuke Fukuhara as the Sage.
This performance is directed and choreographed by
Minoru Suzuki, who recently earned the
Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for the 74th Arts Encouragement Prize, highlighting the creative merit of this production.
