Hartford HealthCare's Surgery Center Receives National Acclaim as One of the Best ASCs in America

Hartford HealthCare's Constitution Surgery Center East Recognized Among America's Best

Hartford HealthCare's Constitution Surgery Center East (CSCE), located in Waterford, Connecticut, has earned a prestigious spot on Newsweek's list of America's Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). Out of numerous evaluations, only the top 5% of ASCs in the country achieved this recognition based on stringent criteria focusing on clinical quality, patient experiences, and peer endorsements.

This accolade serves as a testament to the center's unwavering focus on quality and patient safety, aspects that were meticulously assessed using data from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Such distinctions put CSCE in an elite group of surgical facilities known for their superior standard of health care across the nation.

CSCE has been a pioneering force since its inception in 2001, transitioning to a larger facility in 2017 to better serve its patients. The center boasts four operating rooms, a procedure room, and a dedicated staff of thirty surgeons, who specialize in various outpatient surgical practices including total joint replacements, orthopedic and spine surgeries, cataract and ocular plastic surgeries, alongside pain management procedures. Furthermore, it has plans to open a fifth operating room by 2025.

A remarkable milestone for CSCE is its role as the first ASC in southeastern Connecticut to introduce manual and robotic arm-assisted total joint replacements, showcasing its commitment to utilizing the latest technological advancements in health care. In an exciting development for 2025, CSCE aims to become the only ASC in New England to offer Stryker Mako® robotic arm-assisted total shoulder replacements, solidifying its position as a front-runner in outpatient surgical care.

Dwayne Kertanis, Senior Vice President of Operations at Hartford HealthCare, expressed pride in this recognition stating, "We are honored that our commitment to clinical quality and patient safety has been acknowledged by Newsweek. This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our physician partners and staff, who strive every day to provide the best possible outcomes and experiences for our patients."

Medical Director Dr. Tarik Kardestuncer also emphasized the significance of this acknowledgment, noting, "Being recognized as one of America's Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers highlights our unwavering dedication to excellence in patient care and safety. Our strategy focuses on personalized attention for each patient while leveraging cutting-edge surgical technologies."

Karen Goyette, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at Hartford HealthCare, reinforced the importance of this recognition in evolving health care delivery, saying, "We are proud of this recognition from Newsweek, affirming that our strategy to enhance access, affordability, health equity, and excellence is yielding results. We are committed to transforming health care for the benefit of all communities."

The Constitution Surgery Alliance (CSA), which co-owns CSCE along with Hartford HealthCare and local surgeons, emphasizes a dedication to outpatient surgery.
