EIZO Launches AI Edge Computer Mitococa Edge in Collaboration with JR West

EIZO Introduces Innovative AI Edge Computer

EIZO Corporation, headquartered in Hakusan, Ishikawa, Japan, and led by CEO Masaki Ebisu, has made significant strides in advancing surveillance technology with the release of its AI edge computer, Mitococa Edge. This groundbreaking product, developed in collaboration with JR West, is set to hit the market on May 21, 2026. It incorporates advanced image recognition AI capabilities designed to detect anomalies such as overcrowding, unauthorized access, falls, and lingering individuals, directly from surveillance camera feeds.

Overview of Mitococa Edge

Mitococa Edge is engineered to carry out AI analysis right on-site where surveillance cameras are installed. This allows instant detection and notification of various issues, enhancing response times. Capable of simultaneously analyzing footage from up to five cameras, its setup and monitoring functions are user-friendly, operable directly through a web browser.

The device is built on a robust application framework utilizing Mitococa AI, a technology honed by JR West in the field of rail transport. This enables precise identification of people and specific objects within camera footage. Collaborative efforts between EIZO and JR West have led to a reconstruction of the AI execution environment, GPU optimization, and thermal design, resulting in an impressive fivefold increase in AI processing speed compared to previous configurations.

Mitococa Edge is designed for versatility, offering customizable solutions that cater to various markets, including not just rail transport but also healthcare, manufacturing, and social infrastructure such as highways and railways. Its introduction aims to address labor shortages in video surveillance, enhance operational safety, and boost overall productivity.

What is Edge AI?

Traditionally, AI-based image recognition and processing have been performed primarily on cloud servers. In contrast, edge AI utilizes compact computers positioned near surveillance cameras to conduct AI processing locally. This approach offers several advantages: there is no need to transmit visual data externally, leading to immediate detection and notification unaffected by network conditions; privacy is safeguarded since footage remains onsite; and operational costs, such as cloud usage fees, are significantly reduced. These benefits contribute to the rapid adoption of AI edge computers across various sectors requiring real-time analytics and high security, including factories, transportation infrastructure, and commercial facilities.

Key Features of Mitococa Edge

  • - High-precision detection capabilities for overcrowding, unauthorized access, falls, lingering individuals, and specific object recognition.
  • - User-friendly browser interface for easy setup and monitoring.
  • - Supports simultaneous analysis of video feeds from up to five cameras.
  • - Capable of sending alerts to nearby notification devices over the same network, including patrol lamps or email alerts.
  • - When connected to EIZO’s IP decoder products, it allows for simultaneous display of surveillance footage and alerts on screens.
  • - Integration with EIZO's streaming gateway box reduces data transmission volume and latency.

Exhibition Information

EIZO will showcase Mitococa Edge at the 2nd Railway Technology Exhibition in Osaka from May 27 to May 29, 2026, where live demonstrations will be held. JR West will also feature Mitococa Edge at its booth.
