Florida International University Achieves Top QS Rankings in Hospitality and Politics
In a remarkable acknowledgment of its academic excellence, Florida International University (FIU) has earned prestigious positions in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, showcasing its significant stature in education globally. Leading the pack, FIU's hospitality program has been ranked No. 3 among U.S. public universities, clinching the 23rd position worldwide and establishing its dominance as the best in Florida. This ranking highlights the excellent preparation and quality of education provided at FIU, led by the renowned Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
According to the rankings released by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, FIU also made waves in the field of politics, placing in the top 30 among U.S. universities and landing in the 101-150 bracket worldwide. These accolades underscore the university's robust reputation across a variety of disciplines, reflecting its overall commitment to educational excellence.
Michael Cheng, the Dean of the Chaplin School, expressed his pride over the rankings, noting that they represent a significant milestone for the institution. He emphasized that the hospitality program’s rise in the rankings was largely driven by an increased employer reputation score, meaning that the industry acknowledges the quality of the graduates produced. “The impact of our graduates is being recognized as they are successfully gaining employment in the field, thanks to our innovative hands-on learning approach and quality education in hospitality management,” said Cheng.
In addition to hospitality and politics, several other programs at FIU achieved commendable rankings in varied fields such as accounting, architecture, business, history, and law, with many being rated among the top public universities in the U.S. and in the global context.
FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez remarked that these rankings are a testament to the outstanding academic programs offered and the trust that employers place in FIU graduates. “Our programs across disciplines are meticulously designed to equip students with the necessary skills and experiences, preparing them to thrive in an increasingly competitive global job market,” Nuñez stated.
The QS evaluation method involves assessing universities across five broad categories: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences, natural sciences, and social sciences and management. The QS World University Rankings consider various metrics such as academic reputation, employer reputation, the H-index (measuring the number of published papers and citations), and international research collaboration.
