Keeper Security Highlights Importance of Cybersecurity in Education on Digital Learning Day
Championing Cybersecurity in Education
In an age where digital threats are on the rise, Keeper Security is dedicated to fortifying educational institutions against increasing cyber attacks. On this year’s Digital Learning Day, Keeper Security, a frontrunner in cybersecurity solutions, spotlighted the imperative need for enhanced protective measures in schools. The call to action comes in response to alarming incidents, notably the recent PowerSchool breach, which exposed sensitive data of numerous students.
Understanding the Landscape of Cyber Threats
The current landscape reveals a paradox: while 74% of parents have confidence in their child's school's cybersecurity processes, a mere 21% report receiving advice on secure password management practices. Lists of staggering figures continue, with only 9% of schools integrating password management tools into their services, leaving a majority of students vulnerable in an increasingly digital world. Furthermore, only 14% of educational institutions provide mandatory cybersecurity training, a stark contrast to the pressing need for such education.
As classrooms transition to more connected environments utilizing various digital platforms and administrative tools, the likelihood of cyber crimes targeting educational institutions grows. Many schools are hindered by a lack of IT personnel, outdated infrastructure, and budgetary constraints, exacerbating their vulnerability. In fact, a recent report indicated that 66% of higher education institutions faced ransomware attacks in 2024 alone.
A Commitment to Student Safety
Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-founder of Keeper Security, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity as not just a technical challenge but a vital component of student safety. He stressed, “Educational institutions must prioritize cybersecurity to create safe digital ecosystems where students can learn without the fear of breaches.” The emphasis on creating a secure environment is further highlighted through Keeper's
