Celebrating 50 Years of Harajuku Sun-Ad

Harajuku Sun-Ad, a prominent player in the advertising and branding industry, has launched a special site on August 7 to commemorate its remarkable journey of 50 years. Founded in October 1975, the agency has grown immensely while focusing on creating meaningful communication and creative solutions that resonate with society and individuals. Based in Shibuya, Tokyo, Harajuku Sun-Ad was originally established as a separate entity from Sun-Ad's Honda division. Under the leadership of President Kuniaki Oi, the agency has successfully collaborated with various clients, including Honda, addressing their promotional needs with innovative ideas across different mediums.

As a centerpiece of its anniversary celebration, Harajuku Sun-Ad announced the upcoming publication of a book titled drive! drive! drive!, set to be released on October 1, 2026, at bookstores nationwide and online. This extensive volume boasts 1,200 pages filled with contributions from 50 notable figures across diverse fields, including music, film, design, literature, and more. Renowned personalities such as Bose from the hip-hop group Schadarappa, former wrestler Riki Choshu, and filmmaker Yojiro Takita will each share stories about their beloved vehicles and life experiences, offering readers a unique blend of essays, photographs, comics, and novels.

The agency is dedicated to showcasing the cultural and historical context behind each story, making it much more than just an automotive book. Tapping into the rich fabric of Japanese trends and communities, it also comprehensively covers iconic Honda advertisements from the past. Further details about the book will be revealed in September.

Moreover, in celebration of the book's release, Harajuku Sun-Ad has plans to host a pop-up store in Harajuku in September 2026. This event will feature exclusive merchandise, including T-shirts, caps, and tote bags, alongside special exhibitions that are only available at the event. The specifics about the offerings will be unveiled gradually on the special site dedicated to the anniversary.

In conjunction with its 50th anniversary celebrations, Harajuku Sun-Ad has also relocated its office on April 20 to a new base of operations, unveiling a refreshed visual identity (VI) alongside the move. This symbolizes the agency's commitment to staying relevant in an ever-evolving landscape, reinforcing its promise of creative solutions and vibrant communication strategies.

As we look forward to the months ahead, Harajuku Sun-Ad will accelerate its public relations initiatives leading up to the book launch in October and the unveiling of the book's full details in September. The agency aims to engage audiences and stakeholders through its special site, where updates will be shared continuously.

Harajuku Sun-Ad has traversed a half-century of creative milestones, and as they prepare to further share their inspiring stories and connect with fans and supporters old and new, we invite you to join in the celebration of their legacy.
