Planet Fitness Empowers Teens with Fitness Through Summer Pass Program

In an impressive display of commitment to youth wellness, Planet Fitness has successfully engaged about 3.7 million teens aged 14 to 19 in its 2026 High School Summer Pass program. From June 1 to August 31, these teenagers logged an impressive total of 19.4 million workouts, reflecting a remarkable 2% increase from the previous year. This surge in engagement emphasizes the growing dedication among today's youth towards both physical health and mental well-being.

Since the inception of this initiative in 2019, Planet Fitness has made significant investments, having waived over $620 million in membership fees to promote health among younger demographics. The increasing participation remains consistent with a positive trend of teenagers actively pursuing healthy habits during their summer breaks. Instead of indulging in a holiday from fitness, many teens utilized the program to foster long-term routines, enhance their mental health, and strengthen their relationships with friends and family.

Colleen Keating, Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness, stated, “The success of our High School Summer Pass program is a powerful reminder of the role accessible fitness can play in supporting the next generation's health and well-being. This year's program participation reflects a growing commitment among teens to prioritize wellness, and we're proud to provide a welcoming, Judgement Free environment where they can build healthy habits and confidence that can last a lifetime.”

First-Time Fitness Experiences

Notably, the program served as a welcoming entry point for many first-timers. Close to 58% of participating teens reported that this summer marked their initial experience in a fitness club, emphasizing the Judgement Free ethos that Planet Fitness embodies. This initiative has made it possible for teens to embark on their fitness journeys in a supportive environment.

Mood Enhancements and Personal Growth

Beyond the physical gains, the mental and emotional transformations experienced by participants were significant. A staggering 93% of surveyed teens indicated an immediate boost in their mood following workouts. Furthermore, 84% reported a noticeable enhancement in their overall mental well-being, while 83% stated they felt an increase in self-confidence as they progressed through the program.

Social Aspects of Fitness

Fitness for this generation has morphed into a social activity. Over half of the surveyed participants, at 53%, often worked out alongside a friend, with 20% of them exercising with a sibling and 15% enjoying the company of a friend group. The initiative also strengthened family bonds, with 42% of parents exercising with their teens, and two-thirds (67%) stating that their child's involvement inspired other family members to embrace active lifestyles as well.

Conclusion

The High School Summer Pass program by Planet Fitness exemplifies a successful initiative that not only promotes fitness but also builds community among teens and their families. It sets a precedent for how accessible fitness can positively influence the lives of young individuals today. As more teens take charge of their wellness journeys, initiatives like this play a crucial role in shaping a healthier, more vibrant generation.
