Kakuyasu's Initiative: Introducing Hybrid Trucks for Sustainable Delivery

Kakuyasu's Commitment to Sustainability in Delivery Services

Kakuyasu Co., Ltd., a key player in the Hitomail Group, is making significant strides towards sustainability by integrating hybrid trucks into its delivery system. The company operates predominantly in the metropolitan area along with expansions into Kansai and Kyushu, focusing heavily on the sale and delivery of alcoholic beverages and related products. Recognizing the urgent need to mitigate environmental impact, Kakuyasu has launched a project aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of hybrid vehicles in its logistics operations.

With a clear focus on lowering greenhouse gas emissions, Kakuyasu has identified this as a crucial challenge in its business model. The newly introduced hybrid trucks will be deployed across five distribution centers in the Tokyo metropolitan area, with plans to integrate a total of ten vehicles within the current fiscal year. This initiative allows them to maintain their existing operational framework while simultaneously contributing to greenhouse gas emission reductions, showcasing a dual commitment to efficiency and sustainability.

In addition to the hybrid trucks, Kakuyasu is set to begin employing electric mini vehicles (EVs) for store deliveries starting November 2023. Currently, they have 17 EVs in operation, each expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by around 60% compared to traditional gasoline vehicles. This transition not only enhances Kakuyasu's fleet but also aligns with global efforts to embrace more environmentally friendly logistics solutions.

Furthermore, the company is taking steps beyond just the introduction of vehicles. To promote a culture of sustainability and safety among its drivers, Kakuyasu has launched an internal campaign titled "Eco-Safe Driving Month." This initiative aims to elevate environmental awareness and safe driving practices throughout the workforce, coinciding with the Eco Drive Promotion Month recognized by various governmental bodies including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan. This comprehensive awareness program plays a crucial role in instilling values and practices that support sustainable logistics in daily operations.

Kakuyasu's commitment extends beyond vehicle adoption, reflecting a broader vision for environmental responsibility. They are focused on reinforcing their initiatives to create a low-carbon society, targeting sustainable logistics as a core tenant of their business strategy. As they look to the future, Kakuyasu intends to continue leading by example, advocating for eco-friendly solutions in the logistics sector.
