This winter, Kanazawa Biyori is excited to announce the grand opening of a spine-chilling VR horror attraction titled
SENRITSU MEIKYŪ: Mei, set to take place at
Kuraso Place Korinbo. The venue, which sits at the heart of Kanazawa's bustling Korinbo district, aims to blend thrilling entertainment with the city’s cultural allure. Between traditional crafts and local cuisines, this new experience offers a modern twist to the region's vibrant cultural landscape.
An Immersive Horror Adventure
Inspired by the popular horror attraction at Fuji-Q Highland,
SENRITSU MEIKYŪ: Mei utilizes advanced XR (Cross Reality) technology to offer an unprecedented horror experience. The event is scheduled to run from
November 28, 2025, to
March 1, 2026, marking the first time that this unique walkthrough experience will be presented in Kanazawa.
Participants can engage in a horrifying journey through a simulated
Virtual Hospital, which they traverse on foot while wearing VR goggles. This fictional abandoned hospital is said to hold mysterious phenomena from the construction of a previous attraction. Guests will take on the role of investigators for a paranormal research agency, striving to uncover the unsettling secrets lying within its walls.
Despite the limited physical space of the venue, the Scape® XR platform enhances the perceived dimensions, providing an interconnected eight-floor labyrinth that equates to about one kilometer in length. As participants navigate through corners and staircases, the conditions immerse them deeper into the experience, causing them to lose track of their actual surroundings.
Each session lasts roughly
30 minutes and includes real-time interactions between participants, who appear as avatars in the same virtual realm. Their visible reactions—such as stopping in fear, jumping, or gasping—further enhance the shared intensity of the experience.
Creating a Unique Cultural Attraction
What sets this initiative apart is the transformation of an everyday space into a temporary stage for horror. The positioning of the event in a popular area frequented by shoppers and diners allows it to seamlessly integrate entertainment into daily life. As the city’s inhabitants and visitors alike embark on this chilling quest, they will find that the virtual labyrinth injects new energy into the city center.
For those concerned about accessibility, the experience is designed with ease of navigation in mind. Upon arrival, participants can expect a guided route that leads them through the attraction, making it suitable for both seasoned event-goers and newcomers. Story context and crucial safety information are available in Japanese and English, ensuring an inclusive experience for international travelers and locals alike.
