Moment Energy's Hub in Vancouver Starts Full-Scale Production of Battery Energy Storage Systems

Moment Energy's Manufacturing Hub Hits Full Production

Moment Energy, a pioneering company in battery energy storage, has officially reached full-scale production at its manufacturing hub located in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. This facility marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to cater to the rising demand for advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) across North America, specifically targeting a massive market requirement of over 5.6 GWh.

The primary product being rolled out from this facility is the Luna BESS, a modular energy storage system that can be scaled up to 10 MWh. This system is particularly noteworthy because it repurposes used electric vehicle batteries, converting them into high-performance energy storage solutions suitable for commercial and industrial applications.

Incentives and Growing Demand

The swift ramp-up in production coincides with favorable incentives like the BC Hydro's Energy Storage Incentive Program. This program can cover as much as 90% of project costs for qualifying businesses, greatly enhancing the attractiveness of battery storage solutions such as the Luna BESS. Such programs are gaining popularity throughout North America, solidifying battery storage's role as a critical element for enhancing grid resilience and facilitating decarbonization efforts.

Vision and Impact

Edward Chiang, CEO and co-founder of Moment Energy, expressed enthusiasm about this development, stating, "Over the past six years, Moment has collaborated with some of the largest automakers to create the safest and most advanced energy storage solutions available. Now, with North America’s first UL 1974-certified facility aimed at repurposing batteries on a large scale, we are taking significant steps towards ensuring critical battery material retention and modernizing our energy grid."

The Luna BESS operates efficiently by storing energy during off-peak hours and delivering it during peak times, potentially slashing demand charges by up to 50%. Moreover, it mitigates the risk of outages and diminishes reliance on diesel-powered backup systems.

Applications Across Critical Industries

What makes the Luna BESS particularly valuable is its deployment in sectors where reliability is paramount. Industries such as artificial intelligence-driven data centers, hospitals, airports, food processing facilities, concrete production, and even agricultural operations are increasingly turning to this technology to enhance operational efficiency and ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

"North America is experiencing a notable surge in demand for battery energy storage, especially from industrial and commercial sectors," remarked Gurmesh Sidhu, CPO and co-founder of Moment Energy. "In industries such as healthcare and transportation, where dependable power is not just preferred but essential, we are committed to meeting these urgent needs with our innovative solutions."
