Pudu Robotics Launches the PUDU-D5 Series: Advanced Autonomous Quadruped Robots for Complex Environments

Pudu Robotics Unveils the PUDU-D5 Series

Pudu Robotics, a global leader in service robotics, has recently announced the launch of its PUDU-D5 Series, which marks a significant development in the realm of autonomous quadruped robots. Designed specifically for complex outdoor and industrial environments, the PUDU-D5 Series is tailored to tackle the automation gaps prevalent in these demanding settings.

Addressing Automation Challenges

While service robots have made remarkable progress in structured environments like restaurants and hotels, many industrial sectors, especially those with harsh outdoor conditions, remain under-automated. The challenges of uneven terrains, steep inclines, staircases, and adverse weather have hindered the effectiveness of robotic solutions for critical missions such as inspections, patrolling, logistical support, and emergency response. The PUDU-D5 Series aims to bridge these gaps, featuring advanced autonomy, robust mobility, precise perception, and high environmental adaptability.

According to Felix Zhang, the founder and CEO of Pudu Robotics, "The PUDU-D5 Series represents a major step forward in our vision for robotics. The D5 integrates advanced autonomy, sturdy mobility, and intelligent interaction into complex outdoor and industrial environments. For us, the D5 is not merely a new product but a milestone in our journey to enhance robot capabilities in diverse applications."

Key Features of the PUDU-D5 Series

1. Automotive-Grade Processing Power: The D5 employs a dual-processor architecture featuring NVIDIA Orin and RK3588, achieving up to 275 TOPS. This enables real-time capabilities in SLAM, 3D reconstruction, object recognition, obstacle avoidance, and path planning, facilitating continuous and unattended operations even in dynamic scenarios.

2. High-Precision 360° Perception: Equipped with four 120° fisheye cameras and two 192-line LiDAR sensors, the D5 provides comprehensive environmental sensing, generating dense 3D point clouds for accurate localization and dynamic navigation. Operators can remotely monitor missions via high-definition visualization tools as needed.

3. Expansive Navigation Capability: The D5 can autonomously map and navigate areas up to one million square meters. It handles complete operational workflows, from deployment and patrolling to obstacle navigation and returning to its charging station with a range of up to 14 kilometers on a single charge – making it ideal for airports and large industrial sites.

4. Stable Payload Capacity: Constructed with high-strength aluminum and featuring closed-loop torque control, the D5 supports a stable payload of 30 kilograms, providing continuous operational time exceeding two hours at full load to accommodate various inspection devices, materials, and mission-specific modules.

5. Terrain Adaptability: The D5’s hybrid locomotion, combining wheels and legs, enables it to reach speeds of up to 5 m/s on level surfaces, scaling inclines of 30° and climbing stairs over 25 cm high. Utilizing IMU-based stabilization and bionic control algorithms, the D5 guarantees smooth operation across various terrains.

6. All-Weather Endurance and Extreme Durability: Designed for real-world conditions, the D5 can initiate operations in temperatures as low as -10°C and withstand environmental extremes between -20°C to 55°C, achieving an IP67 rating for reliable performance amidst rain, snow, dust, and volatile climate changes.

7. Intelligent Tracking and Predictive Avoidance: By integrating image and depth recognition technologies with proprietary dynamic obstacle prediction algorithms, the D5 achieves reliable autonomous following. It maintains safe and stable distances in congested or narrow spaces, making it suitable for inspection, logistics, and escort tasks.

8. Natural Interaction through Gesture and Voice Control: The D5 supports over ten intuitive hand gestures and is equipped with a six-microphone array featuring AI noise suppression for robust voice recognition in noisy environments, enabling user-friendly collaboration and seamless site operations.

Expanding Pudu Robotics' Ecosystem

The launch of the PUDU-D5 Series enhances Pudu Robotics' offerings beyond specialized service robots to encompass complex industrial and outdoor scenarios. It complements the existing range of semi-humanoid and humanoid robots, allowing customers to deploy robot fleets across diverse applications, from industrial inspection and transportation infrastructures to security and outdoor research tasks. This initiative aims to foster a scalable ecosystem that effectively addresses real operational challenges previously beyond the reach of autonomous systems.
