Leifras Launches First Steps into North American Market Through Acquisition in Canada

Leifras Takes First Steps in North America

Leifras Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: LFS), a dedicated player in youth sports and community engagement, is embarking on a significant journey into the North American market. Announced on September 16, 2026, the company has signed a share transfer agreement to acquire A To Sports, a children's soccer school operator located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The acquisition, which is set to finalize on January 1, 2027, marks an essential milestone in Leifras' strategy to expand its business model globally.

A Strategic Move for Global Growth

This strategic acquisition aims to establish a firm foothold for Leifras in North America, promising vital opportunities for growth. Leifras, recognized as a leading operator of children’s sports institutions across Japan, aims to transfer its expertise in sports education overseas. With the acquisition, A To Sports will function as the company’s inaugural subsidiary in North America, setting the stage for further international activities.

For Leifras, Canada was selected as the launchpad due to several compelling reasons. The booming soccer market in the region, paired with favorable demographic dynamics and a cultural affinity towards sports education, creates an environment ripe for business development. The anticipated interest surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to sustain engagement levels among children and families, boosting participation in sports activities.

Furthermore, the growth rate of Langford, where A To Sports is situated, has been notable, rising by 31.8% between 2016 and 2021. Such demographic trends bolster Leifras’ confidence in the long-term demand for children's services in the region.

Fostering Non-Cognitive Skills Through Sports

Leifras has always focused not just on developing athletic skills, but also on nurturing essential non-cognitive capabilities—like courtesy, cooperation, and independence—through their sporting programs. Aligning with Canada’s emphasis on 'physical literacy', which promotes understanding and engagement alongside physical ability, Leifras intends to introduce this holistic approach in its new North American market, leveraging A To Sports’ established local connections and operational strengths.

Mr. Masato Takao, representative director of A To Sports, has previously worked in the J.League and holds considerable knowledge in sports management which is invaluable to Leifras as it enters this new phase.

Merging Strengths and Cultures

Following the acquisition, Leifras plans to integrate its operational expertise while respecting A To Sports’ community-driven approach. This strategy includes enhancing instructor training, safety protocols, and the quality of school services, while collaboratively developing educational programs that address local needs.

The company views this acquisition as a significant opportunity to create differentiated value in sports education, tailored to support children's growth. By bridging the rich heritage of Japanese sports education with Canadian market dynamics, Leifras hopes to cultivate an environment that benefits children across both nations.

A Bright Future Ahead

Looking ahead, Leifras aims to leverage insights and experiences gained in Canada as a foundation for further expansion into promising international markets. The company remains committed to fostering environments where children can thrive through sports, regardless of where they are in the world. This entry into North America is not just about growth in geography, but also about building relationships and contributing to community well-being.

Mr. Kiyotaka Ito, Leifras’ CEO, shared, “The signing of this agreement marks a pivotal moment in our journey. Our goal is to share the value of sports education we have built in Japan with communities around the world. Canada not only represents a growth opportunity due to its rich soccer culture but also aligns with our mission to enhance children’s developmental experiences through sports.”
