The Animal Welfare Symposium in Miyazaki: Shaping Our Dining Tables and Local Livestock Industry

On December 12, 2025, the Animal Welfare Symposium will take place at the Miyako Shimbun Hall in Miyazaki, hosted by the Japan Livestock Technology Association. The event aims to promote the consumption of domestically produced livestock products and facilitate a better understanding of sustainable livestock management and animal welfare.

Relevance of Animal Welfare

Animal welfare has become a crucial global issue in the livestock sector, highlighting the need for sustainable farming practices. In Japan, elevating awareness regarding sustainable management and exploring the potential for livestock exports are integral objectives. To effectively promote a welfare-oriented approach to animal farming, it is essential to involve all stakeholders, including producers, processors, retailers, and consumers. This symposium will foster discussions about fundamental principles of animal welfare within livestock practices and address Japan’s current status, initiatives, challenges, and future possibilities.
