In a groundbreaking announcement at Google I/O 2026, Samsung Electronics, headquartered in South Korea, along with Google, launched two stylish models of intelligent eyewear. Collaboratively developed with eyewear partners Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, this innovative eyewear is designed to serve as a companion device for smartphones. Characterized by a conventional design, it allows users to receive assistance through voice commands while seamlessly connecting with their smartphones.
The upcoming eyewear combines cutting-edge AI technology with a focus on comfort and aesthetics. This product effectively integrates Samsung's top-tier product technology and hardware engineering with Google's AI capabilities and the luxurious designs from both Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Each eyewear brand has infused its unique design philosophy into the models. Gentle Monster, known for its bold aesthetic, presents dynamic styles, while Warby Parker showcases timeless and sophisticated designs.
Designed with user accessibility in mind, the intelligent eyewear supports users in real-time understanding of the world, helping them carry out daily tasks hands-free. Users can, for instance, inquire vocally about routes utilizing the navigation function provided by Gemini, or receive personalized suggestions for nearby cafes along their usual walking routes. The eyewear also facilitates takeout orders, summarizes important text notifications, and allows for the addition of events to calendars. Other notable features include real-time translation of spoken language to match speaker voices, and the ability to translate text from menus and signs within the user's line of sight. This innovative device operates seamlessly within the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, enabling users to accomplish daily tasks with ease without having to reach for their smartphones, and even assisting in taking photos effortlessly.
Jay Kim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics and Head of the Customer Experience Team in the MX (Mobile Experience) Division, stated, ‘This intelligent eyewear marks a significant step towards realizing Samsung’s vision of AI. This new AI form factor will expand the Samsung Galaxy device ecosystem, optimizing each device to provide a tailored AI experience suited to its form.’
Shahram Izadi, Vice President and General Manager of Google Android XR, commented, ‘The intelligent eyewear represents a powerful advancement in our shared vision with Samsung to make AI a more convenient and accessible part of daily lives. By combining Google's strengths in AI and the Android ecosystem with Samsung’s leadership in mobile hardware, alongside the premium designs from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, we aim to allow users to maintain a fashionable style while enjoying a hands-free experience in a more natural manner.’
Hankook Kim, founder and CEO of Gentle Monster, emphasized that ‘intelligent eyewear must not only be technologically advanced but also express the emotions and individuality of the user. Our vision was to merge fashion and technology in bold, beautiful, and human-centered ways. Gentle Monster’s innovative design identity will lead us into a new era of intelligent eyewear in collaboration with Samsung and Google.’
Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, added, ‘Eyewear is a highly personal item. Therefore, every detail matters when incorporating advanced technology into the frames that people wear daily. Our intelligent eyewear is designed for intuitive usability, combining Warby Parker's distinctive design with precise optical performance and exceptional comfort, so users can focus on the moments in front of them.’
The first collection of this intelligent eyewear is anticipated to launch this fall in select markets, with further details set to be announced in the coming months.
