Baptist Health International and Bahamas Wellness System Team Up for Enhanced Healthcare Services

Strengthening Healthcare in The Bahamas

In a significant move to enhance healthcare services, Baptist Health International, a prominent part of Baptist Health South Florida, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bahamas Wellness Health System. This collaboration, formalized on March 5, 2026, is set to bolster healthcare delivery and professional training opportunities throughout the region, particularly in Eleuthera.

The MOU outlines a comprehensive framework aimed at elevating access to specialized medical expertise and fostering clinical collaboration. This initiative includes various facets such as facilitating second medical opinions, supporting clinical training, and enabling peer-to-peer consultations among physicians. Dr. Arlington Lightbourne, the president and CEO of Bahamas Wellness Health System and Eleuthera Wellness Hospital, expressed optimism regarding the agreement, stating, “This MOU is a pivotal step in our mission to provide safe and high-quality care that meets international standards.”

The collaboration opens up new avenues for mentorship and professional development, directly benefiting patient care through improved access and education. Patients within the Bahamas Wellness network will now be able to seek second opinions from Baptist Health physicians, enhancing the level of care in local facilities. Furthermore, this partnership may introduce cutting-edge teleconsultation services, helping to reduce the necessity for patients to travel abroad for specialist care, thus streamlining patient outcomes.

Healthcare professionals within the Bahamas Wellness Health System will also gain from educational programs supported by Baptist Health International. These initiatives may encompass participation in conferences, clinical observerships, and extensive training courses. As noted by Dr. Rogelio E. Ribas, Corporate Vice President of Baptist Health International, this partnership seeks to create valuable healthcare connections throughout the Caribbean.
