In an exciting development within the healthcare sector, CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, has announced a strategic partnership with Cleveland Clinic. This collaboration aims to harness their combined expertise, technology, and unique data capabilities to boost clinical research and innovation. The announcement was made during the Cleveland Discovery Innovation Forum, a prominent event focusing on cutting-edge research in healthcare and life sciences.
Focus on Health and Aging
The initial focus of this partnership lies in advancing research on health, well-being, and healthy aging. The organizations are particularly keen on exploring new drug discovery approaches related to brain health, which has become a pressing area of concern given the limited effective treatments available.
Dr. Lara Jehi, senior research outcomes officer at Cleveland Clinic, expressed her enthusiasm: "This unique collaboration builds on Cleveland Clinic's biomédical research expertise and CAS's leadership in scientific data and technology. By joining forces, we aim to generate high-quality medical data, validate scientific models, and integrate research to improve patient care and chronic disease management."
Leveraging Advanced Technologies
The initiative is set to utilize the CAS Content Collection™, recognized as the world's most comprehensive curated scientific information resource. Furthermore, advanced technologies like new AI models and quantum computing will be intricately woven into the research methodologies. Notably, as part of this partnership, Cleveland Clinic hosts an IBM Quantum System One—the first quantum computer globally dedicated entirely to health research.
The aim is to construct and train disease-specific models, starting with Alzheimer’s disease, improving preventive and predictive strategies, and eventually applying these findings to other chronic diseases.
Manuel Guzman, president of CAS, emphasized the necessity of this partnership by stating, "It takes an average of 17 years for a scientific discovery in the lab to be turned into an approved test or treatment. Together, we believe we can bridge this gap. Guided by our shared goal of enhancing lives through scientific innovation, we will combine high-quality content, thematic expertise, and advanced technologies to identify new pathways for healthy aging, creating positive social and economic impacts."
